5 axis ebay BOB or RS 485 control with mach3 and Huanyang GT VFD ?

I have a harbor freight 33686 round column mill that I have a Paul CNC setup on that works great for me. I will be switching to ballscrews and VFD setup. Brand new to the VFD stuff, so wondering which setup is best? Been searching and finding bits here and there, so I'm sure i'll have follow up q's, but any help is appreciated

Does Mach3 even read rs485?. It's a very old program.
    Just use the analog 0-10v

You can control the VFD with Modbus but only if your VFD understands real Modbus. Not all cheap Chinese VFD does that even if the manual states that it does. Mach3 needs a Brain file to communicate. When I used Mach I wrote a Brain file for my VFD and controlled it via Modbus. Mach can handle RS485 but that is not enough, it is just the hardware protocol. Modbus is the actual communication protol and is an industry standard. Use analogue voltage if you are not familiar with Modbus.

I used the 'Modbus' Mach3 plug-in plug-in program from Mach3 plugin for Huanyang VFD | Le royaume d'éole
Huanyang call it Modbus but it is a slight variation.

Thanks, that's what I figured, and I don't know a thing about MODBUS, so New BOB is probably my best bet

Appreciate the reply. I had seen this but also read that the GT VFD's are true MODBUS insinuating that plug in won't work. Ultimately I just want to make sure one method isn't way better than the other. So if the 5 axis BOB I attached above is fine, good enough for me

    Hi,
the early model Huanyang VFDs has a non-standard protocol, and that required the specialist plugin that Al-the-Man referred to. Later model (GT) Huanyang are supposedly Modbus compliant.

The problem is the Mach3 Modbus module is an absolute dogs breakfast. I managed to get one working with Modbus/Mach3 and swore I'd never do it again.
Mach4's Modbus module is a delight by comparison.

I had an application that needed to communicate with a Huanyang, after some emails with Sebastien of Royaume plug in I managed to write one such a program.
