Lightweight Technologies are important enabling technologies for resource efficient and thus sustainable products. Fiber based composites are one of the most efficient ways to contribute to sustainable processes and products. Based on the use of recycled composite waste the lecture describes ways for efficient use of composite waste and successful approaches to design products which meet the requirement of circular economy. A special focus is placed on the role of artificial intelligence in reaching this goal.

Fiber based composites offers a wide field of possibilities for different applications. In order to enable these composite for a wide industry stable and cost efficient production process as well as recycling technologies are required. Therefore efficient machineries for virgin and recycled fiber productions are needed to reach this goal.

Due to their high lightweight construction potential and the possibility of realizing complex components and structures in a single production step, fiber composites represent a highly interesting and future-oriented alternative to metallic lightweight construction materials. Therefore, fiber composites are a concrete answer to the current demands for resource-saving, energy-efficient and thus sustainable lightweight construction solutions. As part of the lecture, technologies for thermoplastic fiber composite components will be presented under the aspect of sustainability.
