Photoelectric distance sensors are used in applications where the presence of and distance to an object must be reliably detected. The new O6Ds from ifm use PMD sensors that work with time-of-flight technology (TOF). The sensor emits a light pulse and measures the light reflected by the object. The sensor then calculates the distance from the time difference. This enables robust and reliable detection that is independent of the angle or colour of the surface.
The O6D has a maximum range of three metres. Either a reflectance value or the distance value can be output. The user can choose between three operating modes: Fine, Standard, Fast. The HEG (High Excess Gain) feature ensures highly reliable detection even on jet-black or reflective surfaces. Configuration and set-up are carried out either via the two teach buttons on the device or via IO-Link. An M8 socket is provided for the electrical connection.
