New app delivers most important bearing data in almost no time

Gothenburg, Sweden, 16 September 2019: Sounding complicated, the “Super Precision Bearing Data Manager” app in fact makes it very easy to access the most important specifications of SKF’s super precision bearings on standard smartphones and tablets in almost no time. For this purpose, the user simply scans the Data Matrix Code on the packages or bearings. This provides information on the exact marking of the bearing and when and where the bearing was manufactured. Some important tolerance values are also supplied promptly.
The app is not only programmed to contribute to the traceability of each bearing, but also links to SKF’s Authenticate App, thus enabling the user to verify the bearing’s authenticity. In addition, the SuPB Data Manager facilitates the grouping of “universal” bearings. This is particularly helpful if the user is looking for a matching pair of these.
On top of this, the app provides the correct installation instructions for the respective high-precision bearing - digitally, of course. This avoids unnecessary "paperwork" and thus will help preserve resources. Just as time-saving, the user also has direct access to SKF’s bearing catalogue and relevant calculation tools from SKF. Moreover, the app creates various reports (as PDF, CSV, XML or JOSN files) that can be individually linked to the customer's ERP system if desired.
In the future, the Data Matrix Code will probably even offer customers the possibility of uploading the scanned bearing data directly into their own "cloud" or software systems for further processing. This way, the customer could use the data, for example, for logistics within his own production process or for the tasks of his design department. Because of this, SKF’s software engineers are already toying with the idea of including additional bearing parameters and even more useful functions for the “bearing management” in future app updates.
The current version of the SuPB Data Manger App is already available for download for free - both for Android and iOS.
Held in Germany until 21 September 2019, EMO Hannover is expected to attract more than 2,200 exhibitors and over 120,000 visitors from the automotive, aerospace, electronics and general machinery industries. SKF is exhibiting in Hall 8, Stand A22.
