Testbed Award for TSN Testbed

The TSN Testbed from the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC) received the Testbed Award at the IoT Solutions World Congress which was held from October 3 to 5, 2017 in Barcelona. The prize has been awarded annually in four categories (Industry Award, Innovative Award, Business Transformation Award, Testbed Award) since 2016. The jury judged the TSN Testbed, which was newly constructed this year, to be the best of the eleven nominated testbeds.

Bosch Rexroth is involved in the Industrial Internet Consortium's (IIC) TSN Testbed. In 2016 the consortium set up an initial model of the TSN Testbed at National Instruments in the USA. It was decided this year to build a second version of the testbed in Germany in order to create a testing facility close to the fast-growing community in Europe. Bosch Rexroth is providing the facilities and infrastructure for this.

In the meantime, regular plug fests are being hosted at the Rexroth Erbach site. This is where developers from manufacturers of controls, field devices and network infrastructure components can meet to test out the interplay of their current TSN developments. The exchange of real-time data between controls from various manufacturers based on OPC UA TSN as a prototype can be realized and verified very quickly in this way. Bosch Rexroth, along with other companies involved in the IIC TSN Testbed, is currently developing the foundations for a simple and user-friendly configuration. An associated membership should make it possible for companies to test their products in the TSN Testbed in the future regardless of whether they have IIC membership or not.
