Automating multiple small series into one? Cellro shows how it’s done at METAV 2018

Automating high-volume series of identical products is vastly easier than automating multiple smaller series of varying shapes and sizes.
At the upcoming METAV 2018 trade fair, the renowned automation developer Cellro demonstrates a smart solution to this problem. The standard Xcelerate automation system now optionally comes with a Fixture Exchange. This module allows the robot to combine multiple milling series into a single cycle, by automatically changing machine vises and robot grippers.
Xcelerate: compact, yet highly versatile
Over the years, Xcelerate has become a widely recognized automation system. Its compact size, wide range of possible functions and user friendly controls have made it the go-to solution for many production purposes. From loading a single machine 24 hours a day, to flexibly assisting production on-demand across varying machines in a movable setup.
Xcelerate is built on modular technology, allowing the end user to adjust the system when needed to meet their ever-changing needs. Cellro’s R&D develops new modules and applications, thus improving upon Xcelerate’s range of employability. At the METAV 2018, Cellro demonstrates one of Xcelerate’s latest modules: the Fixture Exchange.
Fixture Exchange: combine multiple series into one
Previously, automating multiple milling machine series came with the pain of having to manually adjust the machine for the next product. This was especially cumbersome during production after-hours, deterring profitability.
The Fixture Exchange allows the Xcelerate automation system to combine up to four series into one unmanned production cycle. The module consists of four pallets and automatic clamps. First, the robot places the proper pallet using a pallet gripper. Then, the robot adjusts to a product gripper in order to place the product in the machine. After all products are finished, the robot will automatically prepare the next series of products with their respective pallets.

Cellro provides a live demonstration of the Fixture exchange alongside an Xcelerate X20 at the METAV 2018 (February 20-24 in Düsseldorf). Those interested can visit Cellro at Booth D85 in Hall 16.
Xcelerate is one of the core products within Cellro’s portfolio. The automation developer offers a complete range of solutions, fulfilling diverse automation needs – all the way up to 24 hours of unmanned production and handling weights of 260 kg. For example, Cellro’s Elevate solution offers tremendous storage capacity thanks to its vertical design.
