549 tools in just 8.6 m² of space - DMC 80 U duoBLOCK®

The innovative ISO50 matrix magazine gives the  DMC 80 U duoBLOCK® virtually endless possibilities in tool availability.

The reputation of the universal machining centres in the duoBLOCK®; series for providing top-level manufacturing possibilities continues at speed. In line with this, the DMC 80 U duoBLOCK®; also produces the most demanding serial components with maximum precision and short machining times. As the machining of complex workpieces often entails the use of many tools, DMG / MORI SEIKI will be presenting the  DMC 80 U duoBLOCK®; at the Open House in Pfronten in a version with a newly developed ISO50 matrix magazine. The combination of a rack and wheel magazine offers space for a total of 549 tools and impresses with its fast tool changeover.

During the development of the ISO50 matrix magazine DMG / MORI SEIKI focussed on three factors that would have a positive impact on productivity: a large number of tools, short changeover times and the smallest possible footprint. Expressed in figures this adds up to: a total of 549 tools requiring an additional space of just 8.6 square meters (total footprint 32.5 m²). With the fast integrated tool changer the DMC 80 U duoBLOCK®; achieves a maximum chip-to-chip time of 4.1 seconds. These impressive performance values are only possible due to the wheel and rack magazine combination. Thanks to its dense packaging the latter has space for 512 tools. In this system the upstream wheel magazine with its 37 tools located close to the machine ensures very short tool availability times, so the potential of the rapid changeover technology can come into its own to the full. The tool changer has direct access to both the wheel and the rack magazine; a further guarantee of unlimited flexibility. This also ensures there are no bottlenecks in tool availability.

The concept of the ISO50 matrix magazine is suitable for many different tools, which can all be changed at the same time as working in the working area. Diameters of 100 mm to 280 x 400 mm (bridge tools) are possible. The maximum tool length in the case of the DMC 80 U duoBLOCK® is 550 mm. Setup operations are possible both at the rack magazine and the tool loading station of the wheel magazine. DMG / MORI SEIKI has maximized variability here as well: complete tool boxes can be unloaded from the rack magazine so the user can setup block-by-block. The capacity of a box is 96 tools with diameters of 100 mm x 250 mm. The ISO50 also has additional equipment options that include tool identification in the two parts of the magazine plus mechanic tool breakage and brush taper cleaning.

Boosts productivity for proven duoBLOCK® technology

The already extremely efficient DMC 80 U duoBLOCK®; gains considerably where productivity is concerned thanks to the matrix magazine. The operator is distracte less by looking after tools and can carry out even more secondary work during primary machining time: work on the second pallet at the setup station of the automatic pallet changer as well as loading of the rack and wheel magazine. This results in machine down times being reduced to a minimum, so production can have the benefits of the efficient duoBLOCK® technology to the full: highest dynamics and maximum precision

The extremely rigid FEM-optimised design of the latest duoBLOCK®; generation promotes long-term accuracy. High static mass and low mass of the moving parts enable the excellent dynamics mentioned. The DMC 80 U duoBLOCK®; puts these characteristics to good use in the manufacture of components with a maximum diameter of 900 x 1.330 mm. The Ø 800x630 mm pallets have a maximum load capacity of 1,400 kg.

The extensive modular spindle program offers customers spindles for every application. From the standard 12,000 rpm, 121 Nm spindle to the high-torque SK 50 version gearbox drive spindle with 8,000 rpm and 727  Nm.
