    What kind of cutting forces can a vh65 take?

    I am wondering this because we have a pretty heavy milling job coming up and will be using a vh65. I am worried it isnt up to the task of rotating while we are cutting. Biggest cuts will be a 2 flute 3/4 endmill buried .625 deep.
    We have had good luck with our Fadals milling mostly soft steel and aluminum up to 5 axis. We are always looking for spare parts If you have a broken down Fadal give a shout.

    How far the cut is from centerline is the driving factor.
    6" dia. or less you should be fine, gear backlash should be less than .001
    at 6" dia.

    Put a line M60 after indexing your A position to lock the pneumatic brake and cut away!! After your cut, hit a M61 to open the brake and index again..

    Over the last two years I have cut over 100,000 steel parts on a vh65 4th axis mandrel with a modified tailstock. Largest cut with a 1/2" endmill..

    Right yes I know about the air brake we will be cutting with constant rotation. Should work out fine.

    I machined a 4340 billet race engine crankshaft using the G15 YZA interpolation on a 3016 with vh65. All rough and finish cuts were nice... Stock startted out as a 165 lb 6" round stock and end product was under 35 lbs.

    (old thread, yes; but for future readers)

    I came across some specs for a used unit that stated 150 ft-lb (or lb-ft for the engineers in the house) of torque. I'm not sure how this compares, but this seems quite nice to me. I'd say this comes from the 90:1 gear ratio.
