spumco,
If you look at the fourth image you can see four rollers. The belt is pushed in between the two middle rollers and is looped around a sprocket on the servomotor. The servomotor is pulled...

Low-Alloy,
That is what I show in post #306. An angle with the static belt is mounted to the bottom of the X-axis carriage and the dynamic (endless) belt is mounted to a reduction drive mounted...
I have recently implemented a 5i25 & 7i76 setup. I followed the instructions at LinuxCNC Documentation Wiki: UpdatingTo2.5, it works great. There is a thread on the card at 5i25 - 7i76 support...
Use the SR15s. They are excellent guides.

bianchi,
You can pick up an old desktop for next to nothing that will run linuxcnc.

I have used it. You will need to get a parallel port card for your computer.
Read everything you can on the LinuxCNC.org site.
Generally, 0,0,0 is set using limit switches and a homing...
John,
The drive does not clamp the two belts together. I probably should not have said 'pinch'. It only needs to keep the belts in mesh. One of the earlier posts said to allow a slight gap...
Thanks for the feedback Mike.
I have a full length spacer attached to the table right beside the angle (not shown) that keep the belt from riding 'up'. The cam follower plate keeps the belt from...
I have taken a slightly different approach to this drive. Instead of depending on the slide to maintain the 'pinch' between the idler rollers and the stationary belt I have used 5/8inch cam...
What is the make and model of the mill? This will determine what chuck can be installed.
That's where I was going with this thread. How does one describe the kinematics of this system?

I ran across a Metronics Technology pastry cutter. Check out the video here on YouTube.
Is there a name for the two timing belt/trapped ring style CNC machine?
Thanks,
Stan
I can send you the manual for the drive. Send me a pm.

Note that 'modern' computers are putting out 3.3v instead of the 5v we need for cnc. Use a parallel port adapter card to get the full voltage. I had to do this to get EMC2 to drive a Xylotek card....
Evan,
I am in Cedar Falls. I have a 2.5 x 11 x 25 homebuilt cnc router using a Rotozip for a spindle. It is running EMC2 software on Ubuntu. I cut out balsa RC airplane parts and some sign...
I have been using CamBam under windows to generate G-code. Works great and the price is right.

Are you aware that Hypneumat is still in business? We have recently purchased drill spindles from them and are very happy with their quality and service.

Check out the construction of MultiCam routers. http://www.multicam.com/eng/Products/routers.html Gudel has an interesting construction. They take a skin cut on the tubing and then bolt short...
Gudel has an interesting approach to building an axis.

Time to throw in my two cents. I am a long time lurker at cnczone. Inspired by the homebuilt routers. Took the advise not to 'spin the motors' until I had a machine to mount them in. After about...
