well, that's not a bad idea. microcarve's design is far superior to mine, but i want to develop something of my own, gather as much experience as possible. we'll see how things work out:cheers:

i was thinking the same thing, but i was also trying to make Z as small and light as possible. i will also rethink this:)
okay, here's the first design for my next machine. it's made of MDF and aluminum combo. the frames that hold the supported rails are 40x40mm 2mm wall, and 80x40mm 2,5mm wall. "endcaps" (if i can call...
these are great advices, guys. thanks a bunch. one more question. parts. supported rails, leadscrews... is there a place that sells everything? i guess that shipping will be the major issue, since...
be careful with this board. pin 1 is enable, which means when one driver/controller is enabled, the other two are also enabled. depending on the controller you will use, that can lead to some...
well it definitely will be hobby based business. but if it goes beyond that, no one will be happier than me. time will tell. i think i'll follow mr microcarve's advice. i'm already drawing up a 2'x1'...
thanks for all the advice, man. i really appreciate it. true, the market is always treacherous, and "wobbly".
what would you suggest regarding technologies? i mean the drives, linear motion,...
thanks for the reply, kind sir:) i think i might just frame this post as a motivational poster. my plan was exactly to build something small, reliable, and relatively cheap for an average hobby joe....
Hi, guys.
I need some help from you, once again. Couple of friends and i decided to "start-seriously-thinking-about-starting-a-small-business". Some ideas emerged, and i thought about cnc kit...
looks good. man, if i had access to any kind of extrusions, i wouldn't give mdf a second thought. just pay attention to accuracy, and squareness, and you're on to something.
good luck!
what do you plan for the mold making? is there a ready-made epoxy you plan on using? i was considering mold making for small series production, but haven't been able to find the compound to make the...
so i suppose this will be a moving gantry? IMO, good thinking on the side panels. i would maybe make them lower, closer to the base, but if the gantry risers are eliminated from the design (i suppose...
you're probably right, because when i tested the "repaired" motor, two out of four 9A mosfets burned out after a short while:)
motor itself could be damaged. similar thing happened to me: a phase in the motor burned up, so i disassembled the motor, and found what appeared to be the problem: it has a small pcb for...
forgot to post some photos to explain better:
i've had some issues from the moment i finished my first driver board for this. the issue was in motor overheating. thing is, the mcguire driver has an optional enable input. it's optional because it...
looks good to me:). can you please explain the double panels on the sides? i assume those are the side panels, not front-back ones. rigidity, design?
best of luck!
edit: hope your mom/wife/whoever...
do what the title says:)
here is my little enclosure. relatively small, but the machine is also small:)
simple, an eBay BoB, and 3 homemade driver boards (all credit goes to tom mcwire). i have yet...
i made myself a little enclosure for the BoB and the driver boards. nothing complicated, just an old alarm control panel enclosure and a piece of 8mm MDF cut to size. looks a lot more organized and...
thought i answer my question: link to the part of the solution below. a simple SU plugin i needed for this, but it's not hard to find. hope this helps:)
View topic - introduction+some help...
tested the configuration with 36V supply today. as opposed to 12V PC psu (350mm/min max), i am getting around 600mm/min. a lot more than i hoped for:) next step, PSU build. 36v, 10A.
i had to turn off some features in kcam because i have (at the moment) a prehistoric (abacus almost) PC. i had some skipping during continuous rotation, but that was because of the PC, it didn't...
thanks a bunch, this is great info. only question is shipping, do they deliver to croatia, southeast europe:) i'll check these out
thing is, i got one endmill in the package, 60mm length, 14mm flute length and 3 flutes (i think). i managed to burn the bit, as i worked on 25mm MDF. of course, the flutes were not long enough to...
hey, guys. i was wondering, since i am sure there are dremel users around here, where do You get your bits? i will be needing bits primarily for my toy cnc, but other applications are possible. so, i...
thanks. of course, it would be silly of me to assume that software is a bit off, since there are so many users around, so this was the only logical solution. i just hope this thread helped someone...
really? thanks a lot! always nice to get a compliment! any suggestions for improvements?
to answer my problem way down at the bottom of the page;
i had the steps/mm setup wrong. i roughly calculated the ratio in the beggining, and left it that way. hope this helps!
i actually solved it yesterday, but hadn't had the time to reply to myself:). problem was in steps/mm setting. i forgot that, when i first tested everything, i roughly calculated the ratio, and left...
to answer my second issue: it would be okay if i tried reading manuals sometimes:) obviously, i can do cut-outs, with waterline finish option, without roughing. the page mr. robert linked explains...
