Re: STAY AWAY FROM ARIZONA VIDEO

I'm not doubting you had issues, but Dave has been helping me out with some stuff without me buying anything. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him. I also understand he is building one unit at...

    Re: IH - RF45 bearings

Bringing this oldie back from the dead, did you ever figure out which sides of the AC bearings face each other? I am guessing they should be opposite each other. I'm thinking the bearing label is...

Re: Charter Oak mill x-axis backlash help

Yep, the pulley is threaded on and has set screws that just go into the threads. I think it had a mild loctite on it, not sure what though. Tightened it just a little and the backlash went away. It...

Re: Charter Oak mill x-axis backlash help

I think this sprocket might be threaded on. I will try to use a band wrench on it. It might also be the fasteners for the ball nut. I will update if I figure it out.

Re: Charter Oak mill x-axis backlash help

Definitely ball screw. Servo driven with encoder on the screw drive, not the motor so it shouldn't be negatively impacted by a loose belt.

I tightened that flange, but it didn't change anything....

    Hello,

I have had an old IH manual mill since 2007 and regretted never getting the CNC kit which led me to purchasing a used Charter Oak made around 2014 that seemed all ready to go. Once I got it...

I am not sure if the backlash in the quill (I assume that is what the bouncing is from) is any different than before the seal replacement. It seems like it is worse, but I didn't really spend enough...

    bearings and cantilevering

Thanks for the replies. As far as the bearings go, I didn't actually remove any during the seal replacement (http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26850). So I don't know how I could have...

    Spindle bouncing up an down

I think I may have a problem with my non-CNC IH spindle. If I set up a block under the tool and then lower the spindle, there is about .03" of vertical slack that gets taken up between when the tool...

    Top plate removal

    Hello Kimoyo,

I removed the motor by removing the bolts and lifting it off (you also have to disconnect the wires coming from the switch). Then I removed the top plate bolts. Next, I tightened...

Maybe all mills leak some, but this leak seems a little more than just 'normal'. I wonder if there is a flaw in the casting like youngfg had? I wouldn't be quite as worried about it except that if...

No plans to CNC in the near term, I feel like I have a lot of learning to do since I am brand new to the mill. I would love to CNC sometime in the future if I start doing minor production work. Who...

Yeah, I was fine on how much oil was in it. That wasn't the problem. Almost certain it was the top seal.

Thanks MAX711! I did as you said and got the spindle all the way down. That allowed...
