Looks like it has been stored outside for a while. I think I would pass on any machine that has been outdoors with that much rust; unless you plan to use it for spare parts.
Outstanding!! I was really dreading this job because I thought I was going to need to pull the top of the head off. This made my day!!
Thanks again,
Wayne
Not yet. I am waiting on a break between work. I have been keeping it pretty busy. Anything you have would be much appreciated. Thanks!!
Gus,
That is a great idea. When I swapped the Z-axis belt years ago, that is exactly what I did. I used the table to support the spindle.
Thanks for the explanation Mike. The only reason I was going to remove the spindle / quill as an assembly is that Wells-Index requested that the spindle / quill be returned as an assembly to...
Thanks, but I already have a place that is going to do the regrind / rebuild for a good price.
Anybody removed the entire spindle / quill assembly from a Boss 5 rigid ram? I am contemplating sending the spindle out for a taper regrind and new bearings. Would like to hear any key points /...
I have moved my Bridgeport around my shop with a heavy-duty 2-ton engine hoist (not the cheapy Horror Freight model either). Perhaps one of the local tool rental shops would have one for rent? ...
Thanks mactec!! I took mine off the machine, and found a gouge on one of the coils. I did some grinding to remove the sharp edges and raised metal. It seems to be working OK now (no hanging). If...
I remember reading on this forum that each of the spindles were sized to fit the machine it was installed in. You may want to check the diameter / fit before you go too far. If the swap is going to...
I must have spent 30 minutes the other day searching McMaster, and could not find them. I guess I never hit the right keywords. Thanks!!
Anybody know of a replacement for the metal bellows that covers the X-Axis ballscrew? Mine is really noisy and sometimes hangs-up during extreme travels; which will not allow full-use of the 18"...
GREAT to hear!! If tramming the head is that easy on these machines, I may need to check mine a little closer. Thanks for the update!!
.002" on a 10" circle?? I would leave it alone if it were me; unless you think you are going to be cutting with some really large cutters or really long endmills. That is pretty good in my opinion...
If memory serves me correctly, there is a ridge along the perimeter of the sections that help to align the pieces as you set them in-place. I started all of the bolts, turned the spindle by hand a...
Why are you trying to remove the motor? Is it damaged? I have a Boss 6 Rigid Ram and have removed the motor when I replaced the Z-Axis drive belt. You will need to remove the entire top half of...
Guys,
I am planning to order a Fogbuster setup this week, and noticed they offer a number of different mounting options. Which mounts are you using, or did you make your own?
Thanks for the fogbuster reviews guys!! I have been studying them for a while, and now I know what I am going to purchase. It might be worthwhile adding your comments to the review section of this...
Newby2,
I did not see any Accupro for the price range you listed. I think you may have ordered the standard import; which has that $40-$60 range.
NEAT,
Thanks for finding them. Sounds like...
Can you provide some part numbers? I did a search on the MSC site, and could not find any NMTB 30 stuff. How hard are the holders? Think you can turn the flange O.D. on a lathe instead of...
What type of tooling does it accept? (i.e. QC30, KS200, R8, e.t.c.)
I have a piece of the pulley stock left. I sent you a PM on it. Hope this helps!!
Hey,
I may have a piece left-over to make another pulley. I had a hard time finding the stock too; since it is an odd tooth count. I may still have the receipt / company name from when I purchased...
The gear stock I purchased was the correct diameter and pitch, and was an extruded piece of aluminum bar. I simply cut it to length on my saw, turned a shoulder for a set-screw on my lathe, machined...
Braid,
I went through the same thing on my Boss 6. Here are the links of what I did, and what you will probably need to do. Finding a Z-Axis pulley is nearly impossible, unless you luck-up on one...
Square column and dovetail column are the same thing, just different terminology. Try your best to stay-away from the round post columns if you plan to do any heavy feeding. They have a tendency to...
Sperstad,
I think your first step should be to determine what type and size parts you plan to make, how much money you plan to invest in your first machine, and what type of electrical power you...
Thanks Ken!! If you ever make it down to MMP for a race again, let me know. The new race-season is just around the corner. Good Luck this year!!
Yes, I use to race at Montgomery Motorsports Park regularly on TNT Fridays. A lot has changed since those days though. Number one, I got married 2-years ago; which I am happy I did. She does not...
