Hi,
I'm looking for some help calibrating an old Federal 432 analog gage amp with EHE1048 gage head. Anyone out there old enough to be familiar with the internals on those units?? It consistently...
BTW, mactec54, I know you did some retrofits with modified drives on the BP's. I'm entertaining the idea of overdriving the motor with a VFD on the stock vari drive. Do you have any experience on the...
I have never heard of RBI Bearing Inc before. Maybe they are great. Maybe not. That's why I'm asking here. I think it's a red flag when something is labeled USA on the packaging and then you see the...
I'm sorry to hear you had to make a new housing. I assume these were not RBI/ RB-tech?
It's cold here in my shop as well. The bearings are still sealed so I didn't try spinning them. If these are...
Hi There,
I'm in the process of rebuilding the head on my 2hp vari speed BP mill. I ordered new Bearings from Hardinge expecting the best and to my horror I I just realized that all the bearings...
I redid my configuration with pncconf and deselected the switch selectable increments. I set the default to .001" and that works. I just wanted to update that. This gives a .001" travel per mpg...
I have not joined Linuxcnc list. I'll migrate over there as I will have more questions. Thank you.
wendtmk thanks for the link. Yes I have looked it over. If I'm reading that right, this uses a selector switch for jog increments. How do you set it up without an external selector switch?
Only...
I'll run pncconfig again and see if I can get a simpler mpg working. If not, does anyone here have a hal example I can copy over? Thanks.
Only looking for a simple setup. Jog units corresponding to whats selected on the axis gui no external button components except maybe one switch to enable them.
hm2_5i25.0.7i84.0.0.enc1.count, raw counts and position signals are all reading in.
Hi,
I have 2 mpgs and want to use them both for z and x axis each on a a lathe. I used pncconfig and I'm not getting any movement. I tried editing the hal file manually. What is missing?

Mactec, thanks for the info but i'm getting confused.
I know that the dmm drives are servo drives and that they are closed loop between the drive and servo. I'm using step/dir to control the servos...
The discussion can be found here:

Open loop works, I was able to get around 300 ipm at 20,000 steps per inch. I had the max_vel at the default value of 1 in my ini file. I pumped that up to 5. I thought that max_vel under the display...
mactec, how do I get my desired .00005" step resolution with your suggested 500 gear setting? At 500 I need 2000 steps from linuxcnc for I rev no? 2000steps x 5tpi=10,000 steps per inch =.0001" min...
PCW,
Thank you for the input. I will do what you mentioned above.
I'm attempting step direction with encoder feedback. Encoder feedback mainly for actual dro position and detecting position error between both axis (lathe).
Should I have purchased an analog +/-...
Mactec thanks for chiming in.
The dmm drives seem to work fine, they are not losing position or faulting out. It's linuxcnc that gives me the errors as I have something off in the configuration....
PCW thank you for the response. I entered those settings. I'm still maxing out at very low rpms. Linuxcnc prompts me that stepgen max vel is too big for current step timing & pos scale, clipping to...
I have not received any feedback here or over at DMM.
Can I assume that if the pulse is 2us, the value for step on time is 1000 and 1000 for step space? What about direction pulse??
Hi,
I asked this over at the DMM section and I'm waiting on an answer as it's specific to their drives and Linuxcnc ver7. Maybe someone here can give me an idea what numbers to plug in?
On the...
80+ views and no one knows? No one else here runs these on Linuxcnc??
I will ask over at Linuxcnc.
Hard limits at the end of travel is the norm. Depending on your machine, one switch on each end of travel or one switch in the middle that gets triggered with trip blocks on each end will work. Soft...
Maybe it's easier to figure out what the corresponding values are in the final ini file. Can someone look into their ini file and share those numbers?
Meant to add that I'm using ver7 on Linuxcnc.
Hi
On the motor configuration page on pncconfig there is a stepper info configuration section. What values do I need to enter that are specific to the DMM DYN3 drives? This is for the Step...
Ok, just a quick update. I changed the breakers out to 20A D curve as I was still getting occasional trips on power up with the C breakers. High inrush "D"seems a better choice.
I found the problem. I swapped the drives and the same breaker tripped. I realized that the way I'm test powering things is wrong. I have the contactors wired to 24v dc power supply which I turn on...
Legendboy thanks for sending this. I was looking for that!
