LOL! Nope... but I did convert it to cnc a few years ago. :) So now I want a larger router based CNC machine. I'd like to cut wood clock gears and such.
Hey Rick! I've only started reading your build thread (very inspirational) and I notice that you also have a sherline mill. Just goes to show... great minds think alike :)
Thanks Wizard! That's a great list of companies you've provided. Excellent resources and information.
Thanks RicknBeachcrest! The Automation4Less stuff looks nice. 1x3 extrusion - 1000mm - $21.90
I really like their other hardware as well like ball screws, motor couplers and such... another great...
I am researching components and costs for my future build of a cnc router.
I will be building it from extruded aluminum components.
I have found 3 prominent companies that provide a diverse...
I didn't build the trailer.
It is a renegade brand and being aluminum, it's very light yet strong.
I tested some different glues that I had and posted my conclusion in a video. If you have suggestions for a better glue... let me know.

This was a relatively simple but neat machining operation to modify an off the shelf bike rack, so that I could attach it to my trailer tongue.
Here's a 3 minute video:

Some of you may have seen this before, but I finally re-edited and compressed these videos for higher 720p quality. Now that I have figured out the video process, I will start posting more videos on...
I am an amateur machinist.
I would like to take some machining courses at the local Michigan community colleges. My focus is to learn for my benefit, not to get a job in the industry. The 3 in my...
I think the sherline lathe and mill setup has only 2 major limitations
1. size of machine limits max part sizes.
2. size of machine inherently has less overall stiffness and therefore speed of...
Wow... All those links really cover the topic nicely!
It looks like I'll be doing a full dis-assembly of my mini lathe.
THANKS!
Thanks! ... that hit the nail on the head!
Just bought a used harbor freight 7x10 mini lathe for $200.
I'd like some advice on restoring/tuning to like new or better than new condition.

I'm a woodworker and home machinist. I Went to pick up a craigslist drum sander and discovered the owner who had sadly passed away, was a serious home machinist. If your not impressed by this shop...
I probably misunderstand your question, but...
I use a fly cutter to face my aluminum and maximize the amount of material I remove.

I would value some basics on taking a simple project from CAD design to CAM to Mach3 and producing a simple 2D shape cut of an aluminum sheet.
I think the biggest problem for the home CNC person...
Thanks vlmarshal! I hope to do some milling soon with gcode generated from a small model and not just manually entering some small gcode logic. :)
I would like to do this in baby steps. Is there...
I thought some of you might like to see my sherline CNC mill in use with Mach 3 as part of my motorization of a bicycle.

Thanks Jason3. I wonder if you bought my manual sherline rotary table from ebay... wouldn't that be weird? I replaced it with a cnc rotarty table.
The animation is complex to make without a...

That makes sense... but I've seen others recommending getting it when converting to cnc. Fortunately... it's relatively cheap compared to the other components needed for cnc.
Actually converting the blueprints back into digital vector format will be the easiest part for me. I have lots of experience converting image data into vector. I can use an old copy of adobe...
I am looking to convert my sherline mill to cnc for the purpose of building some wooden clocks (among other things). The wooden gears can get quite large... so I'm thinking I need 4-axis so I can...
