Look great!
I love a good scrounge build.
I bet I'm not the only one who would love more pictures and/or video if you get the chance.
Good build.

Hello all,
Thought some DIY'ers here would like this article. It's basically a guy from IEEE building a CNC from components off ebay. Plus it covers some of the basics us newbies need to know.

Hey there,
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
When I try to import a DXF in Gsimple it leaves out the oval shapes.
Seems like all of the straight and circular lines are imported just...
Thanks for your help guys.
The switch has AC ratings on it so I should be good.
I haven't found any specs online but after I hook the ohm meter up to it the convention you guys pointed out seem...
Hi,
I got myself a miniature illuminated rocker switch at the surplus store and am wondering how to wire it up.
I want this to be the AC power switch for my power supply.
This switch has...
Posted this in the Yeager sub-forum but not sure if a lot of people go there.
Anyway,
I'm using A9CAD, which is 2D, and copy several dxf designs into a single file.

Hi,
I'm using A9CAD, which is 2D, and copy several dxf designs into a single file.
When I use Ace Converter the resulting shapes in g-code are at different depths.
I made sure that...
Wow, that seemed to work for some reason. I can now explode the new dxf image.
Thanks for you help guys!
Yeah, when I do that I get the same result. The copied image shoes up but I can't explode it. So it remains a single entity and I can't edit individual lines.
Just doesn't make any sense to me. ...
Hey there, can anyone help me out. I'm just learning this CAD stuff.
Is it possible to combine DXF files with A9CAD?
I can drag a DXF into the A9CAD window with a DXF already open. However...
I use this one with my L297/298 drivers. The price was right and it's at least good enough to get me going.
You might be able to find this same model on ebay for a few dollars cheaper.

Thanks Dorsal,
I haven't tried those programs yet since I switched to CNCPro (DOS-based) and it seemed to fix my problem for the time being. My motors now run smooth.
It appears my PC is just...
Hi,
Right now I'm controlling my LJ-II/III steppers directly from my parallel port and a L297/8 driver. I can feel the motors knock or Jerk even though they may not miss any steps.
However...
The AC cord is just an old computer power cable I had laying around. The cord does have a shielding inside it. And now that I look closer it even says "shielded" printed on it.
Does this still...
Hi,
This seems to be a very basic question but somehow I haven't been able to find the answer here.
I just received this power supply and I'm just wondering what to do with the bare wire coming...
Thanks Al the Man,
I guess for some reason I was assuming the motor wouldn't draw any current until steps were commanded from the L297.
I think I need to spend a few more minutes with the...
Hey there,
This isn't a serious problem really but I'm just curious as to what's causing this.
I'm using the L297/298 driver with a really small power supply (24V, 0.48 A). Should be getting...

I looked at the controller software and there is a setting for the direction pulse width. It's not simply left high or low like I thought. So I just adjusted that and it all worked.
...
Okay,
Does that hold true even for signals that are held high or low? For example the direction signal should be either 0 or 5V. I assume it is held high or low for the duration of the commanded...
This could be a stupid question but when you measure the voltage on your parallel port with your multimeter shouldn't you see the standard 0/5v signals or therebouts?
I'm just trying to test my...
Hey guys,
Thanks for the feedback.
I figured these things would probably be out of my league for the homebrew setup I've got going.
But what exactly do you mean when you say they're not...
Saw these at the local surplus shop.
Anybody have any experience with these types of drives? Will they work with most any stepper (like the HP LJ-III ones I have)? And what's a good price for...
Thanks for the info riceburner,
I see that they have circuits which use the L297. Since I've got some samples of those I'll go ahead and give it a try with the h-bridge on my driver board.

Hi,
I'm in the process of building my first CNC and would like to start playing around with some steppers.
I have this old driver I used for some Servos but I'd like to know if there's a simple...
