Nice build, the dual spindle will be nice. Would be nice if you could vary the distance between spindles on the gantry huh? Depending on how much you use you may want to take the guy up on going...

Thanks, yes - 203V's.
I currently have KL34H2160 - 1810ozin & a KL34H2120 - 1200ozin, running on KL6520 - 65V, 20A power supply. By the equation V=32*I(mH)^0.5 (per Gecko data) I get 71.5V & 80V for the two motors...
I have a KL6520 powering two Gecko203V's, the motors are: Xaxis KL34H2160 - an 1840ozin, & Zaxis KL34H2120 - a 1200ozin. The Z has a power-off brake coupled to motor, then to ball screw. The Z...
Sounds like you may be missing a wire - you have 5 wires total coming out of your cnc? (THC is Torch Height Control) There should always be pairs of wires. A photo would be really helpful. Cheers!
181209 Take a look at the image there, does that help? My 1125 has a terminal block with connections for Arc-Ok, & the start signal. For the Torch Volts, I had to grab connections from another...
Sounds like maybe you need to tune the stepper drive. Could that be the issue? With Gecko's you can tune the driver by adjusting a trimpot to tune the microstepping.
What kind of stepper driver...
Here's a link to the blog where updates are posted of what they're doing with the 5 axis machine: srpLAB

Thanks Steve, I see, the mass of the steel rings inside is the more critical part? The rubber gaskets should be thick enough to give some spring action, but would essentially dampen the resonance...
First off, great thread, this is very helpful . . . So let's say I have these 2830oz-in steppers, I'm getting some vibrations throughout the rpm range (0 to 600rpm), and I want to make a damper to go...
Thanks MillworkMike . . . These are on a 3:1 belt reduction already. I'm going to check the #'s & see, maybe I can go down to a pair of HomeshopCNC's RS34-1840's & still have enough torque to push...
I have two KL42H2150-42-8A Nema 42 2830oz-in step motors running the gantry on this 5 axis machine:...
Oh yea, mcphill, you have to be careful too that the advertised '5 axis' cam programs are "simultaneous 5 axis". For instance RhinoCam for a long time advertised up to 5 axis cam, but it was not...
Thanks for the support Andy! . . . Well, I think the Kickstarter video said most of it: Open Source 5 axis CNC Router & Plasma Machine Plans 5'x10' by Mike Calvino — Kickstarter . But...
I know the CNCtoolKit is a little technical, but for instance I use AutoCad to make all of the 3d models, then just import them into Gmax as .3ds - you get used to it . . . the other solution I...
The gantry is driven by two 2830oz-in NEMA 42 steppers from kelinginc.net. could probably use a pair of RS2550's from homeshopcnc.com as well, they would drive it no problem. The X carriage uses an...
Yep,the truss design is exactly that, to keep weight down and to increase stiffness in all directions.
I'll certainly entertain making parts if there's enough demand for it . . . although the...
Well, I also posted a thread in the DIY woodworking machines sections under open source cnc machine designs forum:...
Hello all,
I have posted about 3 build logs so far, the last one was a 5 axis, 5'x10'x29", 5.3hp, router & 60Amp Miller Plasma machine:...
I just started another thread that will be just about the open source plan/instruction document set:...
Hello all,
I have posted about 3 build logs so far, the last one was a 5 axis, 5'x10'x29", 5.3hp, router & 60Amp Miller Plasma machine: ...
I'm planning to release the plans for this machine (with a few, small modifications) as an open source set through Kickstarter if the funding goal is reached, check out the link:

That's the latest test cut I was able to do with the Uark 5 axis. Unfortunately I will not be able to do much more 5 axis code & testing with the forms...
Yea Dustin, everything takes a little longer than you think, but I was pretty close on this one. I actually did this one for The Fay Jones School of Architecture at University of Arkansas. So I...

Final Assembly after paint.
Gantry re-assembled, all bolts get thread lock, either chemical ("Locktite" or similar) or lockwashers depending on location.
Cooling system for...
I am wiring a KL7220, KL6520, & a KL3815. I am wiring them 230V. The schematic from Keling website states:
"AC power connections:
115Vac – 2 red wires to neutral & 2 black wires to
hot. 220Vac –...
Paint time, then wire it up.

I completed the gear reductions for the A & C axis. Here's a youtube vid:

The 1290's from homeshopcnc will work great. There's a pretty big resistance...
Here's the solution for the gearing/torque at the spindle tip. I came up with a double belt drive reduction using 5mmHTD belts and pulleys from Sdp-si.com and from bbman.com. The final drive ratio...
