Steve,

Automation Direct has 276 oz/in nema23 steppers for $39. I use them at work and they are pretty good.

I see that everyone here is designing or has ideas for spindles in the speed range of 2k to 15k rpm. Would you say that ER extensions would work for a spindle? I plan on being in the 20k rpm...

Check out misumi.com, i have ordered a set of ballscrews from them and they appear to be of very good quality. For what your asking for, I quickly saw it would cost you about $500 for C3 grade. You...
I would use loctite 609. Put a dab opn and put the pin in. It is removable too. Check their website.
Try http://www.misumiusa.com/ I just recieved rails and ballscrews from them for a work related project and they are top notch. Very good prices.
You should have no problem cutting them. Go get yourself a cheapy right angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. Hacksaw won't touch the stuff. Make sure you don't over heat the rail where you are...
I was reading the Mach customization document and it mentions you can access mach internal variables. Is there a way to create a global object that my macros can access without needing to create on...
ok, one more time, change the extension of the file to .cnc before you put it into the featurecam directory.
Ooops, the file.
Here is a post file I modified and have used with mach2 when I was a student at Rutgers University. I loved featurecam, too bad it is sooo expensive. Enjoy!!
Ooops, had a brain fart. CJL5585 is right, +5V to the gecko then the ground of that supply to the ground of the printer port. Seperate from the PS. Didn't have my cofee yet. :o
Ok, so what is the 5V referenced to in the Gecko drive??????? If you have three wires from your port, step, dir and 5V, what does the drive reference that to??????? Please explain that one. There...
Make sure your +5V and 24-80V power supply have a common ground, along with your step and dir signals.
Cruisin the web and ran into what I think is another Gecko clone. Wonder if anyone has seen these before. Reading the users manul, seems like another blatent attempt to copy an original. :tired: ...
In looking on their website, I found that xkeys are not automaticaly repeating keys, but have to be programmed to do so. http://www.ymouse.com/techdocs/manuals/manxkps2.pdf
I am interested in it...
They use resolver feedback, and I aligned it as they recomend(emerson) for their drive. Wired the phases up all 6 different ways and still nothing.
I think I have the phasing right. Is there any way to check this? The servo leads are U,V,W, and R,S,T on the drive. Don't think they will match in order since they are different manuf.
I was wondering if it is at all possible to drive a 4 pole ac servo with a drive designed for a 6 pole motor. I have everything all hooked up and the motor just jitters. The motor is a baldor...
I have a new baldor brushless ac servo, bsm80b, and the rated max rpm on it is 4000. I want to use it as a spindle motor and was wondering if these motors can be driven past their rated rpm and how...
Thanks for all the info guys, I guess I'll wait till june and then just try to place an order.
I have been trying to get in contact with Lathe Master(http://www.lathemaster.com/) to see when they would be getting their 8x14 lathe back in stock with no luck. I've emailed them several times and...
keithorr, your right, the z motor is a problem, i have it set up so i can move at 100 ipm, and that limits me in 2 1/2D and 3D stuff. I just wanted to see the max speed i could get and thats where i...
1+ semesters in the machine shop = many missed nights at the bar
300 lbs of aluminum = $190
Steppers, rails, shafts, screws, etc = $600
Watching it move for the first...
Can anybody tell me what post processor Mach2 uses? I am using FeatureCam, but have problems with the way the rapids are posted. What machine does mach2 emulate? Or is there any setting in Mach2...
This is basically a delay that the software uses to delay steps to the drive after switching direction. Some drives need a certain amount of time delay after direction changes to move properly. I...
Ok, I hear alot of people here talking about building a spindle, and was wondering what size motor they would be using. I did some calculations and found that I would need about 1/3 hp to cut 1...
Just wondering if anyone has tried to preload the cheap $20 5/8" ball nut with oversized balls. This past weekend I tried this by replacing the existing ball, which measured 0.124", with 0.125"...
I actually had a similar problem this past weekend while working building my diy cnc. I bought thomson rod and needed to drill and tap it for support rails. Well, let me tell you, my first attempt...
