SMW out of California still makes them at a reasonable cost. I have one on a smal cnc machine and has increased production by 10 times.
Sounds like something is not tight. Work holding must be ridget and your spindle can't have any play in it.
You might try contacting Fagor. They have retrofit and conversion kits and they will walk you through it.
If time is what you want to save= $$$$. Then I suggest you get a drill/tap from MSC and do both in one shot.
Yes you solved your problem. You need to reset the paramiters higher if thats what you want.
What type of material?
You got some good advise so far. I too would run as fast as I could when a greenhorn reaches for that green button. Just remember one thing. A machine doesn't think, it does what you told it to do,...
Try MSC they have all you need at a reasonable price.
If you have a really old machine it would be save to say you don't have coolant through the spindle, and you don't have a positive displacement pump, right. If so there are only two ways togo. New...
Why buy or make tools for special jobs. Doesn't your mill have circle-interpulating capabilities? If it does use it. Very accurately.
Calibers are great for rough work or ballpark measuring. Nothing beats a micrometer. Same cost but more accurate.
Check out cogsdill tools they work great. Rule of thumb is 0.0008 of material for that kind of work. Any more and it won't work.
I worked for a company that does a lot of pipe tapping and a lot of thier customer's reqiured a special projection. So a standard tap would not do, and yes a thread gage is allways needed.
I've seen guy's ask for the top on the line machines and when they get it, can't produce a damn thing right with it. On the other hand I've seen the exact opposite and seen parts I would never...
Tapper problems can drive you nuts when it's 10th's. I have a old Turnex lathe which is mounted on a 6" thick grante slab. I had the same problem you have and for the hell of it one day I reprogamed...
Drill press retracting spring is too strong to use with this tapping head, unless you lighting the spring.
I've read all the suggestions you got so far and all have good points. I have been using CNC's since they first came out and have not found a peck cycle I liked yet. The deeper you drill the more...
If micro finish is what you need do this, it's allways worked for me. Have two shell mills, one for roughing and one for finishing. Leave 0.010 for the finish pass. Use max RPM'S , feed rate at 0.002...
