If someone were to come up with a low cost wireless system to add to some of the lower cost touch probes on the market (i.e. probes that are $200 to $400) would this be of interest to many people?
I...
I am only thinking sending a different toolpath because if I can not communicate back and forth to the cnc "while" a program is running then this would require sending another program anyways. This...
I would like something (i.e. a camera and software) that we can use to take a picture of a tool, i.e. from the side, and maybe from different angles, and verify the tool is not chiped or broken i.e....
Yes that may be the only way. I was hoping to do more outside of the control, but hey, whatever works!
Update: With the small inexpensive probe we were able to probe (on first try)
with a...
I am afraid you may be correct about not being able to go back and forth.
The only way I know of to alter a variable would be to send a whole new program with the variable set in that program........
Would anyone have any thoughts on how to tweak tool diameter or length offsets (while a program is running, but paused) via rs232 input? Or maybe change a macro variable value???

Making some progress... I was able to use the sprint command you suggested and get the output to go to the software called CommPal and dump the text data to the window in this software.
Now I have...
Hi Neal, I am guessing the sprint command can be used within a program?
That would be cool. I was experimenting today, and the book says the g31 command is supposed to dumpt the data directly to...
Hi, I am actually trying to capture probed points from the CNC control.
There is an option on the Fadal (as well as most other controls I am sure) that will send the probed xyz coordinates to the...
Yes, I can document what I find here, I think it will really help others, and me too, as the more people are engaged the more good ideas come to light.
On that note:
The reason I am doing what I...
Can anyone tell me how to capture probe output data from the rs232 port into a file on a p.c.?
Thanks, kinda lost on this one!
I would like to be able to access the data from a p.c. to do further...
Does anyone have Fadal probe macros they could share?
I have a probe on the way and will need to do some custom stuff with it. I would like to find some existing macros to be able to learn from and...
Hi, I am trying to find an accurate method to index a part in 90 degree increments so we can grind 4 sides square on a cnc grinder. so I need the indexer to be able to be automated somehow.
I...
Got it running, all legs pull about 16 amps when at full speed. It was neat to watch it ramp up and the current drops as it speeds up.
Thanks for all the help guys! I hope this helps some...
O.K. I think I am going to set it up for 460 and check all connections to ground etc.
make sure each set of legs ohm o.k. etc. I would "guess" that if everything ohms the same that it would be...
Hi Guys, I am not sure where the motor heaters are, perhaps if I dig a little deeper I can find them. What will happen if I try to run with the 208V heaters before switching them to what I need for...
I also switched the two transformers in the picture from jumpers as shown
to jumper the middle two legs as the nameplates show for switching to 460....
Thanks!
The one picture shows how it was wired when it was connected to 240 3 phase.
I have both the plate on the motor that shows how it should be connected, and the wires are well marked how they are linked together. I could post both if you think it might help....
Thanks guys, the motor was running, however I had the press inspected and the guy who checked it out put an amp meter on the motor and said it had somewhat excessive draw upon start up. It was...
Hi I have a big 3 phase electric motor. I am reinstalling it as it needed to be removed for transporting the press it was on. In checking the motor conections I am seeing that the wires in the...
We disconnected the encoder completely and the counts still climb.... we contacted Galil and they said the card probably is bad. So we are sending it back.
I would like to find another as a backup...
Thanks Al, the counts keep climbing on the y axis, but not the x, and the motor is not turning...
I have a Galil card running two servo motors with AMC drives.
Over the weekend I think something got zapped, and one axis shows the counts running away. I am trying to figure out if it is the...
Does anyone have any formulas that will calculate approximate side loads on a cutter i.e. given feed rate, rpm, chip load, and material etc.?
Thanks!
Is this forum still open? I can't find it in the CAM's programs list on cnczone?
Looking for input, thinking about adding more contouring capability in our shop, currently using WorkNC, wondering if there is anything more automated available?
