GibbsCAM has been great for me. This is the 3rd shop I've been in that uses it. The support here in the Houston, Texas area is fantastic. And like somebody else here already mentioned, you can go...
Thanks, guys. As usual, I'm just trying to do a little research for a company. The statement I was exploring was this:
"You can't keep a 2.25 lead on a new Doosan Puma TT2500 @ 300 RPM's. In fact,...
Has anyone ever had to cut a thread with a relatively "large" lead? By large I mean your "F" is 2.25 (which is approximately 0.444444 threads per inch).
Just curious, what kind of RPM's were you...
mystiks - I sincerely appreciate your time in repsponding. Sorry I have not been on here in a while. I've been up to my ears with preparation for the arrival of this bad-boy. Seriously... thank you!...
Yes, this is VERY sad. I have been a part of implementing "new" stuff (like Lean) in a couple of places now. I have developed a saying: If they don't want it (understand or agree with it), then they...
Hello good people of the forums!
This machine should arrive within the next couple of weeks. It is our first CNC of this caliber & we are very excited :) I'd like to get some questions answered...
These are the only options we have. Every "machinist" here is either a mill guy, or a lathe guy. None of them have the ability to operate the opposite type of machine.
A couple of different people...
We're about to get our first MTM-type CNC machine. It's a double-turret, double spindle machine. Both turrets have live tooling. The top one can move in X, Z, Y, and B.
I wonder... which "type"...
I'd like to thank everyone for their responses thus far & also extend an appreciation out to those that voted.
I have just recently joined this cnczone community... my apologies for not providing...
The attached blueprint is what I am asking about.
Nothing fancy or complicated in the least bit.
Let's say you: center drill, drill, then counter sink the 4 holes.
Pretend your tools are already...
Thanks for your insight, fizzissist.
But I'm just wondering about simple, cylindrical parts chucked in the 4th axis. The part (in most cases) only has 1 OD or just has mill work on a single OD....
I know this must sound insane, but if you have a moment, I'm wondering how others approach the following 2 choices for 4th axis work:
1. Touch the OD of the part & make that Z0. (And retouch them...
Stevo:
Yes, all these Fanuc terms/definitions do tend to get silly. I had assumed that he had basically pressed ZRN, then Z+ and when the spindle made it "home," it over-traveled on him.

Page 43 & 44 of the 10M - 12M Fanuc Operator's Manual says that parameter #1240 will change your machine's Z0 (for the machine coordinate system).
Sounds cool. I hope you get the chance to look at your book(s). Our 11M books (operation book & programming book ) do not mention any parameter that sounded like it could help this situation.

20 minutes is an awfully long time to be waiting for a program to download into your machine. (Slow rate? Large file?)
Anyhow, to answer the question... it might have to do with how you have the...
Ha, ha! Very nice... Thank you ChattaMan, I was hoping to find some sort of advice like this. We do have the book. But it is actually a small, crusty, nasty, old raggedy, green piece of junk (like...
Thank you, Texas CNC man.
If your location is correct & you are indeed up in Dallas... GO RANGERS!!!
(*Joe makes a swooping high-five "claw" in the air)
It SHOULD say the programmed number... but it doesn't.
If the tool is programmed to be 1.000 up...
and the tool comes down to 1.000 up...
ABSOLUTE will not say 1.000 up.
This makes the ABSOLUTE show a number that is really, really, different than the programmed number.
G44 & G43 has nothing to do with the problem.
If I had used G43 instead, the required offset would then be 0.476 instead of -0.476. That's all.
Yes, I did say "when the program is executed."
Now, if you can visualize the spindle comes down in Z... it is in single-block, so it stops once it executes this block of code: G44 Z2.875 H2;

There is a set of info that machine maintenance techs call "System Configurations." You could save these as well if desired.
As far as the 6T controls are concerned, please let me know if you...
When the tool tip is 1.000 above the Z0 point... the absolute positon does NOT read 1.000.
The question is why.
Hello, txcncman.
The "ABSOLUTE" one is not correct.
What is your procedure for setting Z0 & setting the length offset (or, some call it the "height" offset) for your different tools?
Hello all!
It is nice to be here. I have been wanting to create a profile here for a while & have finally done so.
My question concerns a Fanuc 11M control (Mori Seiki MV-80).
What is your...
