That's actually what I've decided to do.... It'll be MUCH cheaper that way!
Thanks!

Just curious if anyone has a piece of this material, have a personal project and I'm having zero luck finding anything this size!
Thanks!

Sorry I hadn't posted again on this... I actually figured out what I needed to. The holding problem was actually rather easy, just had to make some dogleg shaped arms for the clamps! The fixture...
Which Epilog laser will engrave at least .010 deep in steel? It's going to be used on other materials as well, but that's the toughest application it will see.... Their web site was of little use...
Thanks to everyone who put in time and effort quoting this job. It has been awarded. I will have several other jobs up for bid in the next few weeks.
Merry Christmas to Everyone, their families,...
I'm not looking for 3'rd world, and the reason I posted the RFQ is to get the job done on CNC lathes, which I currently don't have. It takes me 20 minutes or so to do each part single point threading...
Ok, I have to hold two parts, and have full access to areas on all six sides, It took me about two days of going ape over the problem until I realized I was being a moron and still thinking that 4...
That's exactly it, I when I put out an RFQ, I already have a rough idea of what something is going to cost in the quantity I want. It all depends on the shop, the response I get from them, and their...
Parting would be acceptable IF the face of the tube is square and the surface finish is decent, and there isn't a burr on the I.D.
The tubes as quoted above are just the first op, I'm trying to get...
You did rather well actually! Over the past several years I've spent a CRAPLOAD more!
Granted, I'm more a business than hobby, but it's still just ME planning/running/doing! I've got far too many...

I would really like to see a GOOD chip conveyor system for the mills.... Make it standard equipment as well, the augers get clogged, then they bend, then they don't work for crap.
I would also...
LOL, I know what you mean there! I go through the same thing trying to coordinate training with different PD's.......... It's a major undertaking....
PM me and we'll see what we can do about...
Just curious, Is there another meeting planned any time in the near future? If so, I'd like to be in on it if at all possible! :D

Sounds like a plan to me :) It would certainly be nice to network and share know how. My expertise is in precision threading, and making jigs and fixtures to hold really weird parts for machining. I...
You "can" get good finishes on 304 stainless, but it's a trial and error process, with proper inserts, you can get good results, but they sometimes have to "wear in" and then there's that narrow...
No, I'm in Cumberland County.... 'bout an hour from K-town or Athens. Matter of fact I'll be down there later today.

Just as an example, let's say it's 4140 prehard, and I'm wanting to go .020 deep. I've heard the term Yag laser before, what exactly is Yag?
Thanks,
Ken
Just curious here, but how deep can a laser engrave materials? What are the limitations of laser engraving, any safety concerns regarding the types of materials engraved? What about power...
Nice to see there are guys interested in NFA around here :) There aren't too many up here on the plateau.... If the meetings are still goin' on, I'd certainly like to attend. Makes it pretty easy...
Awesome, thanks for the link!
Ken
Agreed. I did a google search and pulled up several companies for quotes, but they aren't interested in doing such short run stuff apparently.... I'm looking at just a few pieces.

Shortest part is 6" with a .250" hole that needs to be held +-.003 in diameter. Aluminum
The intermediate is 11" long and 4140 steel. three varaitions, one has .250 hole, the other has .375...
Ok, here's a question for you guys.... I have some parts that require a deep hole to be drilled with a concentricity of + - .005 TIR. I already posted in the RFQ forum, but if nothing comes through...
Error resolved! :D Thanks guys for all your help!
I was able to solve the error by creating multiple planes and placing the sketches on each individual plane, worked like a charm, no errors, no...
Hopefully this will be somewhat explanatroy. It's not an overly complex geometry, but it does have lots of radius cuts, and these intersect on both sides of the solid.
Thanks,
Ken

I had tried to upload a .jpg of the problem, but don't know where it went.....
As I said, I'm just starting out. one of the problems is the location SW places my imported sketches when used to...

I'm relatively new to SW software, and have been creating solid models using sketches imported from Acad to do the majority of the work. I've run into a problem when trying to cut/extrued certain...
Anyone interested in doing some deep hole drilling in material not to exceed 14" in length, materials will vary, smallest hole diameter is .250" single, concentric hole per part. materials are 6061...
