I managed to find a spare backup I had hidden!
Best Christmas present I could get.
Here is a copy if anyone needs it.
There is no way I would have fluked the spindle setup.

I tried the XML file, and I was able to jog steppers with no problem.
But no joy with the spindle. I see the index is not set to a pin, so I need to work out how to set this up again.
As soon...
Thanks heaps!
My disk died, and my backup is corrupt!
Would anyone be able to send me a copy of the XML file for Ultra turnkey version of the Promica X3 mill?
Rob.
Check that you did not bump the red safety switch.
That will cause the issue you mention.
Otherwise PM me and I will get a copy of that XML file for you, but I bet it is not a Mach-3 issue.

Thanks for your excellent response, it seems like servos are the way to go!
Do I really need the belt reduction or can I go direct? I do not need endless power as I only take small cuts on barrels...
I do benchrest gunsmithing, mainly for myself.
I have a CNC mill and a CNC mini lathe that I built.
Both use steppers.
I want to convert my 1m bed European toolroom lathe to CNC.
Not sure...
All fixed.
I just used a 12v power supply from an old hub, and it worked perfectly.
I am sure it is over voltage, but if it dies I have 3 more!

I am no expert, but since there are no other replies, here is my take on this. I have just about finished my CNC mini lathe, and I hooked up limits last week.
I hooked them all up to one pin. This...

I decided about a month ago to convert a new Optimum 7x12 mini lathe.
I have been documenting and taking pictures along the way and put them on a website if anyone is interested.

twobobbwana,
I got all the stuff on ebay. I went with timing belts and 2:1 drive from steppers to ballscrews on x & y axes. For z I just converted the drill press lever with timing pulleys.

Has anyone connected an Ethernet smooth stepper to a Promica controller?
I found the problem with my mill.
The driven timing pulley setscrew undid itself and the key ripped the guts out of the...
Hi Alex,
Welcome aboard!

Hi Guys,
I am glad someone started this thread, as I am also worried what to do if there are issues.
Point of fact I was machining some Alum today and the spindle speed was really erratic, slow...
Lousy day in Chatswood anyway!
Even worse since I stuffed my Xylotex driver board!!!
Another is on the way, then I can finally try out my mill retro.

I went to Darling Harbour this afternoon for a look see, there was some awsome stuff.
It was good to meet Dave, and thanks for the demo of BobCad.

Hi Guys,
I am in Sydney, and currently trying to convert a Hafco RF-25 drill mill to CNC.
I have the controller and software, but I need to get a hold of the steppers.
Can anyone point me in...
