Re: ATC Will Not Move To Spindle

It could be the spindle dogs aren't lining up. Check to make sure they align with the center of the tool carousel. The maintenance manual has pretty clear instructions for this.

    Re: Spindle pulley slipped.

Well, problem's back. I'll try another thread specific to the inverter.

    Re: Spindle pulley slipped.

I pulled the 1010 card and tightened the bullet connectors. So far 42 tool changes without a problem. Maybe it was a connector issue.

    Spindle pulley slipped.

We may have a couple of problems here.

    1. during random tool changes when the spindle locks, there's a 60 cycle buzz that sounds like the spindle motor is trying to turn but can't because the...
  5. Re: Need to shut off a vacuum pump at the end of part file.

We could do that. It would mean the chip blowers (we machine mostly wood so use compressed air instead of coolant) would be blowing and stirring up dust during tool changes. Maybe the risk of getting...
  6. Need to shut off a vacuum pump at the end of part file.

    We use mostly vacuum fixtures.

Currently we use a manual switch to control the vacuum pump. This is fine as long as the operator is there to turn it off after the file finishes but often he's in...
  7. Re: ATC will not move into position error message

The play is in the slot which is quite a bit larger than the bearing that moves in it. I don't think that's the problem though. I think it might have more to do with where the driving arm stops. I...
  8. Re: Fadal VMC 15 won't power up after power outage

Have you checked all your circuit breakers? There are a couple in the side cabinet and a couple in the back cabinet.
  9. Re: Fadal VMC 15 won't power up after power outage

I assume it's a 3 phase machine. Check the fuses on the main line. There should be 3 of them.
  10. Re: ATC will not move into position error message

Playing with the Geneva bar position seems to help. There's a lot of play at the turret's full extension but loosening the bolts and allowing it to find it's most centered position while a tool is in...
  11. ATC will not move into position error message

We're having problems with our tool changer. It either stalls and errors when trying to retract or it retracts then errors. In both cases the error is: "ATC will not move into position". Also in both...
  12. Re: Fadal 2216 Dumping a LOT of way lube into the chip pan

I had faulty metering units causing lube to leak into the saddle and eventually into the chip pan. Replaced them all and problem solved.
  13. Spindle Speed modulates slightly at high RPM

When running the spindle at 9K RPM under no load, you can hear what sounds like the speed slowing and catching up (slightly) every few seconds. Is this a warning sign of something going south?

Re: How to access the Geneva drive?

Still trying to figure this out. The motion is jerky from about tool 20 to about tool 3 and then smooths out for the rest of the tools. The Geneva drive looks to be over-rotating by a quarter turn...

Re: How to access the Geneva drive?

It wasn't as hard as I thought. Pull the top covers and there are four bolts holding a plate that the motor is attached to. Turns out the drive was solidly attached to the motor shaft. The Geneva...

How to access the Geneva drive?

The Geneva wheel has a jerking motion which seems like the drive might have a loose grub screw. How do you gain access to the Geneva drive to tighten things up? It's above the wheel but located in...
  19. Adding compressed air though spindle hack?

My machine lacks a Through Spindle Coolant option. I'd like to plumb 90 psi air through the spindle to drive a small die grinder. A friend did this hack on his Haas. What would be needed to pull this...

Re: way lube puddling under saddle

So the new saddle metering unit did the trick. Flushed with two tanks of Kerosene. Replaced the front and rear X way metering units. The front way seems to receive a thicker coating of lube than the...

Re: way lube puddling under saddle

It turns out, cleaning the metering units didn't work, it just shifted the over-oiling problem to the Y axis ball screw. New manifold just arrived. Hope this solves it.

Re: way lube puddling under saddle

Could that be for the non-PDI system?

Here's what my part looks like.

Re: way lube puddling under saddle

Thanks for chiming in guys. The machine's a 1994 PDI type. All lines are either nylon or copper. Manifold assemblies have gone up. $300-400 each now. Still a good value compared to re-doing turcite....

Re: way lube puddling under saddle

Ultra sonically cleaned the metering units and that seemed to solve the puddling. The right Y way feels a little dry. There's a thin film on it but it's not shiny and wet looking. How do you know how...

Re: way lube puddling under saddle

Ive traced the problem to the front saddle gib. It might have come loose on it's own or it could be because the ground shifted and the machine needed to be re-leveled. At any rate, I've only gotten...

    way lube puddling under saddle

We've been going through excessive way lube lately. I've cleaned up under the table and saddle and don't see any leaks. If I cycle the pump 2 or 3 times it seems like most of the lube is pooling...
  29. Re: Tool changer stalling when trying to retract from heavy tool

Thought we might have had it fixed. Moved all tools over 1 pocket, added a face mill as counterbalance to opposite side of changer to balance the problem tool. It got stuck on the tool change again...
  30. Re: Tool changer stalling when trying to retract from heavy tool

Whoa, never considered that. Thanks Warren. I've moved everything over one pocket and it's working fine now but I'm sure that's only a temporary fix. I'll take a look at how the tool weights are...
