I am trying to orbit a undersized threaded electrode on my EX8. The Z axis wants to retract. Is there a way to lock the z axis so the machine will orbit without retracting?

Has anyone welded 12L14 material?
I recently ran into problems when welding CR steel to 12L14 material. The 12L14 has a high lead contant making it easier to machine but does the high lead content make it dangerous to weld?
