FYI: I just switched over to EMC to control the machines.
It was the easier route to get to where I wanted to be
I would go with heavier gauge as well
Because as a Hobby machinist, any money I make goes back into
buying tooling etc. So I have incentive to "invent" new things.
But When someone comes along and rips off your idea it tends to hit...
I have both the Sherline Mill and Lathe,
They are both very capable machines.
They also have a wide range of accessories
and the support is excellent.
I use EMC2
Many CNC software packages have provisions for hooking
up an encoder, that way the software can display the RPM
My 2 cents
I used to make RC helicopter parts
BUT
I did have a guy ask me for my G-Code.
I told him sorry I don't want to give it away.
He then made a very similar part and started...
Update: The feature is not currently in there, but it may be added.
This should make it easier than having to start
the software and select the proper profile to use.
This is something that...
It really should just be a matter of switching profiles
I was hoping to be able to load the profile from the command line
C:\DeskCNC,exe Lathe.ini
C:\DeskCNC,exe Mill.ini
This is where I...
The lathe is just a small Sherline lathe (to match my mill)
I would like to use the same DeskCNC board.
I plan on either "Y"ing the Step and Dir lines (or a switch if must be)
for the X and Y...
I have a very similar board that is made by Xylotex (they no longer make them).
A few things
The Driver chips really need a heat-sink.
The driver current also needs to be set properly.
...
I would install a vacuum that exhaust to outside.
I think breathing in glass dust can lead to Silicosis,
I would think the levels are different for everybody.
A little for you may be way to...
I ordered a lathe, So now I will have a Mill and a Lathe.
Is there an easy way to get Desk CNC to start up in a desired profile?
I want to make sure people don't think that I'm
giving DeskCNC a bad rap, I really like the program.
I just would like a good manual so I can use it to it's fullest.
That's pretty much where I am.
I was ready to buy a second board then had second thoughts.
Trouble is I like the software, I just wish we had better support
Yes He himself seems decent, and I do like the program.
Maybe it was just when I went to access the support forum
I was told there is a charge (Imservice, who I bought it through).
I under stand the fellow victims feeling.
It is a shame, because I really think it has potential but
Honestly I'm afraid to spend any more money with them.
Indeed
I think it has real potential to be a top notch
product but trying to get the info is rough.
A decent manual would really make this product shine.
I also would prefer DB-9 connectors over Cat-5 connectors.
I believe the DB-9 are rated at 3 amps
while the Cat 5 (RJ-45) are rated at 1.5 amps
Thank you
I have not looked into the other cards, I'd like to not have to re-buy if possible.
I'd had a lot of issues getting this working the first time around
(bad electronics, etc), but now most of what...
I am currently running DeskCNC, but I am
strongly considering switching over to Mach 3.
I do like the way DeskCNC uses the controller board
to generate the steps instead of the Printer Port.
...
I have run DeskCNC for some time now
though I'm sure I'm not using it to it's fullest.
I was wondering how many others here are running it.
Let me stick my 2 cents in here.
Do a lot of homework and be patient.
If I had it all to do over again I would have saved a lot of money and
aggravation, and it still would have taken the same...
Is that all I need?
Just the base Product?
I am strongly considering switching away from my current
Software that I am using to run my Milling machine
I have a small Sherline CNC Mill, with rotary table.
What Product(s) would I need to...
What about something like building a metal box
and putting a gasket to keep the dust out
For coolong you could rey something like a radiator
or even peltier cpu coolers that have the hot side...
What Machine control software would you recommend and Why?
Thank you
It is just a little Sherline mill I bought originally for making
PC Boards then realized it was far more capable
The optical one I ordered are qrb1134 so I can just use a black and white sticker.
The Hall effect (magnetic) is a US1881 latching type
I figured I can get magnets locally at Radio shack etc.
...
There is a setting where you can set the pulse rate
for decoding the speed so that part is easy.
I did order up two optical and two hall effect (magnetic) sensors so I
can try it both ways, I...
