+1 on the spindle door. I was running a part with lots of (manual) tool changes, and had gotten a little too "familiar" (i.e. quick) with the process of unlatching and latching the door. Lucky for...
I started using "Phantom Fixtures" to restrict machined areas and create tabs in the workpiece back in version 7. At least at that time, that was the only way I found that would do it. Works great.
Sorry if this sounds idiotic, but I am a part-time user of Sprutcam, not a pro. If FAQ thread exists for folks like me doing SC upgrades, please post a link.
I've had SC since version 7,...
I just discovered this thread. I've used this trick with success many times. This trick works only in aluminum, AFIK. Dissolve as much Alum as you can in a (crock)pot of warm/hot water. Immerse...
Gaaah. I purchased the SC8 upgrade about a month ago, but have yet to get it working. Some issue with the new dongle. SC7 still works (and crashes occasionally) so I'm not dead in the water, but...
I've basically done the same thing using the shank of a busted extra-long 1/4" carbide endmill. If the hole size is correct (i.e. done with a quality new-ish drill), there is no detectable slop. ...
More photos.

This is another look of the tool marks on no 7. Does anyone else think...
Yeah, I expected that. Now, the photos, starting with what can go wrong. (a lot!)

I haven't been around here in a while, so I thought I'd check in and mention my experiences. I took on the AR lower project almost a year ago. I have a day job, so progress has been slow. Some...
I would also like to hear more about this, and I'll start a new thread as such.

Sorry for coming off a little snotty. I don't want to spark such a debate either. I like Linux and use it all the time - in fact, the virtual machines that I use all the time at work (many hosted...
I won't speak for the various flavors of Linux and attendant substitutes for Mach, but...
The problem is that Windows is not RTOS (Real Time Operating System). (Well, neither is Linux,...
Interesting and informative video. Bookmarked.
Fast forward to 19:00.
Those are some interesting warnings/disclaimers. I especially like the animation of the "warning signs".
My SO (significant other) worked for 10+ years as a desk clerk at a medium sized hotel. Try to imagine the variety of things that can happen in a hotel that are beyond the desk clerk's control, yet...
Very cool. I can't wait to try that out. Thanks, Mike.

This was inspired by a feeds/speeds question over on the Tormach forum ( Tormach Personal CNC Mill ) here. This regards using a ball-end mill in a finishing operation.
Edit: To clarify: Imagine...
Not trying to be contrary here - I just want to understand. Why would a center-cutting ball-end mill be any worse at center cutting than a center-cutting cylindrical mill? I'm not doubting the...
I machined one orientation of my part using roughing waterline. I setup the roughing operation so that it should not leave extra unmachined material for a later finishing pass. Yet it did. I...
My DOC was .02" or less. I was experimenting, after all. My SB9 is leather belt-driven, so I never really cut very aggressively anyway. I'm pretty sure the alloy is 6AL, but I don't have that info...
This may be of limited help, but...
A couple of weeks ago, I was wondering the same thing. I picked up a "drop" of 1 inch round titanium bar and tried it out on my South Bend 9 (manual) lathe. ...
I appreciate the information about finding cheaper tool holders that work just as well. While not a build gloat, it is useful info.

I find that selecting features can be tricky sometimes. Maybe I'm working on a complex part, and maybe I have a slow computer. (Quad core, 3GHz, 4G ram, Windows 7) When I 'mouse over' a feature in...
That's funny! :D
Some time ago, I got the impression that 360 brass was the "gold standard" for machinability. Maybe it was a comparison chart someone generated. Basically, the comparisons...
I have a couple of threadmills, but they're smaller than the one called out here, and I think they were less expensive. Not by much, maybe. I think I'm going to stick with the learning exercise of...

Thanks, as always. That's a curious thing.
I'm wondering about the effects of the overhang parameter. I have a tool table on the Tormach controller, and I've carefully...
I got a spotting drill for - yes that's right - spot drilling holes. I set it up in Sprutcam and attempted to use it to spot drill a few holes in preparation for deep hole drilling.
In...
I own a PCNC 1100. I know it's Chinese made, and I knew that when I bought it. It's a hobby machine, and I saved for years to get it. I actually setup a special bank account and had money...
+1
Words fail me. Beautiful work.

Ok, I'll bite. What is the application for which you must explosive harden AMS? What are you doing?
I've seen a TV show that details explosive welding. Very cool stuff. This is apparently used...
