I pulled the trigger a couple weeks ago and upgraded from VCarvePro 6.5 to Aspire 8.0. What an improvement in features. I've cut out a couple "3D" test pieces, nothing worthy of posting, and have a...
After a couple years of down time, I revived my CNC a couple weekends ago. Long story short, bought a laser back then and didn't have room to operate both so the CNC got buried until recently. It...
Donnell,
If you do go with all-thread, at least use a size that could be easily replaced with Acme.
Good luck on your build. Start taking pics and post them soon.
Roy
@monstermus,
Are you planning on using rack and pinion on both sides of your X? If so, you will need 4 steppers: 2 for X, 1 for Y, 1 for Z.
Roy
Very nice Gerry.
I had enough foresight when I built my machine to allow vertical clamping just so I could do dovetails in the future. Looks like your app will make it easy.
As I'm a LinuxCNC...
Daniel,
I have the NEMA 23 sized CNCRP rack and pinion kit on my X axis and love it. I have run some 2.5D projects through it, including a few lithophanes, and see no sign of measurable backlash....
Congratulations on a nice build! It's a great feeling to get those first successful cuts.
Roy
Can you turn your Z axis by hand with the stepper disconnected? If not, are you using the CNCRP low profile bearing block at the lower end of your Z Acme? I had to cut the shoulders down on mine...
If you use dual X axis screws, you'll use the fourth connector on the G540 to run the second X motor. So what you'd really want with a dual X screw setup is a 4-axis kit. In software, though, you'd...
I'll add my thoughts on LinuxCNC. The price for it is right. It will run on an old computer; I started it on a Pentium 3 with 512MB RAM and it did okay (not great). Large g-code files (1-2 million...
I just backed the Jog It CNC pendant, the LinuxCNC version with Mach 3 pad as extra over on Kickstarter (Jog It link. Looks to be much more user friendly and intuitive than a keyboard and still a...
Louie,
Nice looking build. I'll definitely be watching your progress. What's your expected capacity?
Interesting use of your large machine (gaskets/spacers). Googling "garolite" has your...
Another week, more progress on long-overdue finishing touches and tuning of my CNC.
I added linear rails to my X to make them the full length of my X support rails. The TLV43's appear to have no...
It has been a few months, so wanted to post an update.
I started experiencing some problems with my machine early this year, what appeared to be random missed steps especially on more complex...
@Zild1221,
I built my 80/20 rig without metal working tools other than a drill press and cross-slide vise. Aluminum can be cut with a carbide blade in a circular saw or better yet a miter saw. The...
dtb88,
I think you could build something decent for your stated purposes within your $1000-1200 (US) budget, not sure what you'd end up paying in Australia (exchange rate, local availability &...
John,
After trying to figure out how to measure/find the same thing, I instead cut a shoe for my 690 on K2CNC that clamps to the router body. Link at:...
Ahren,
Great to see these. Are they a simple swap for your other nuts or are they taller/shorter?
Roy
Congratulations! Awesome feeling, isn't it!
Do you have a link (or number or something to search on) for the McMaster brush?
Yeah, and getting high precision out of what you build is pretty nice, too.
Thanks, Roy
Louie,
Good suggestion, I hadn't even thought about the silicone rubbing off onto the material. I'll watch and report back.
I like the concept of acrylic, but I'm not sure how I'd fasten any...
I purchased a sheet of translucent 1/8" thick silicone which is working much better for my skirt. More at my build log.
Roy
I found and ordered a sheet of 1/8" translucent silicone, via Amazon, to replace the vinyl sheet. I cut it 3" tall, had to use two 12" strips plus a short piece. I cut the fingers 1" wide and ~2"...
Paul,
Thanks for that suggestion. I was thinking earlier that vinyl might not be the best material. I was also looking at clear or translucent silicone sheet material as a possibility.
Roy
mmonti,
Using your basic design, I made a shoe for my K2CNC/PC690 mount. Pictures here.
I'm presently using heavy shower curtain, which isn't heavy enough. However, it doesn't hinder Z travel...
After seeing mmonti's dust shoe earlier this week, I knew the same concept of the lower piece connecting via magnets was exactly what I need.
I'm using the K2CNC.com PC690 router mount. This...
Ohio,
I had a similar problem with my CNC4PC BOB (different model). I swore I had everything wired right, EMC2 configured close enough, saw lights on the BOB, maybe even clicking on the steppers,...
mmonti,
Very nice. I've been trying to figure out how to make one for my rig such that I can move it out of the way to get to my collet. Are you using super magnets to attach the bottom and top...
Hi Joe,
I sent an email to you.
