Open the Library folder where your installed SketchUp and add a new file New.skm
Then there will be a New blank page in your Materials library open it and then In Model right click...

I got SketchUp 5 an there you can ekport .3ds .dwg .dxf .fbx .obj .xsi .wrl and that won`t helpe if Solidworks can`t creat a model whit it! Whay not you use Solidworks if you got it?

I can export the files for you diarmaid.
The only thing i don`t like is that Sketchup is export in inches even if i use mm so i have to scale it.
Got a lot of drawings but mostly comuter related...
