I bought one last month, for $19.99 :)
Romos.
The only problem is the RF power supply which is not included.

I don't know if cut quality is better when the metal have some temperature, because usually I cut stainless steel letters 1mm thickness for sign makers.
Romos
What kind of metal and what thickness ?
Romos
I use pure acetone and Johnson's cotton buds.
Yes.
Many software can do this.
This is normal.
To cut a clean part, use in your file, Lead in/out.
Check this link for varius materials for laser cutting.

Owen,
:) Welcome to the club :)

I cut with 2-3 bar.
Don't try more than 4 bar. There is a possibility to break the lens.
watching and listening the test1.avi everything looks OK.
I listen frequency 1-2 Khz.
I thing that the problem is the oxygen pressure.
<< Does the pressure make a lot of difference? >>
SURE Try with 2-4 bar.
By moving the sheet with your hand, you don't have stable speed.
One other question.
What was the frequency and duty...
Owen,
I make the pictures.
What was the thickness of the metal?
What was oxygen pressure?
What was the cutting speed?
Owen,
Are you sure that your beam is centered?
If not, a part of the beam will reflect in the nozzle creating a secondary beam.
You can see it if you make short shootings on a clear acrylic.
...
Owen,
2mm distance between metal sheet and nozzle is ok.
Try with 3 bar oxygen pressure.
Adjust the distance between nozzle and focusing spot (not nozzle and metal) at 3mm. (look the attachment)...
Owen,
when I say lenses, I mean the ZnSe focusing lenses only.( 1.5" and 2.5")
They get dirty from the nozzle side and not from the sealed side.
And you have to clean them regularly. If not,...
I don't have any filter at oxygen line, but I clean my lenses every 2 weeks.

Case 2 (I don't have beam expander)
lens distance from laser: 500mm
focal length: 2.5"
Material: Stainless steel 1mm, and acrylic 10mm
Samples are 2 and 3cm height.
There is some buildup...
Owen,
I made some testing for you, and I took some pictures.
Case 1 (I don't have beam expander)
lens distance from laser: 500mm
focal length: 1.5"
Material: Stainless steel 2mm
Owen,
it will still reflect heat but bigger gap will be better. Not only for the heat. When gap is small, small pieces from the melted metal will hit the aluminium plate, and they will go on the...
Owen,
<<(Please resist the temptation to post that 100 watters dont cut sheet metal -- they do). >>
Actually, they don't....
There are 4 kinds of Co2 laser.
1) Continous wave (100w laser...
Owen,
for galvanized and carbon steel, the cut edges are smooth and clean.
For Stainless steel, there is very little buildup of material on the back of the cut (not so much as plasma cutting),...
Owen,
It was difficult to find here honeycomb (I live in Cyprus), so I thought a simple solution. :)
Aluminium angles L shape, 2 meter long, next each other. Something like this.... LLLLLLL. ...
Yes, I bought all my optics from lasermech, except the Path Enclosure Tubes. (I make them on lathe).
I don't remember what was the exact price, I have to find the invoice.
Romos
owhite,
From your photos, I saw only the Cut Quality Enhancer. No feedback isolator.
I bought my feedback isolator from http://www.lasermech.com/125b.pdf
Yes I can cut 2mm stainless steel....
If you want frequencies up to 32Khz is much easier to design a PWM with a PIC microcontroller.
About your optics... if you want to cut metal, use feedback isolator. If not, you will destroy the...
