Stepper motors can be spun while Manuel machining but servos can't. Also you want friction while Manuel machining with ballscrews because they backdrive. They wouldn't stay put when you let go off...
Spotting glass with a carbide endmill is probably not a good idea.

I'll give you a hint. A patchwork of lofted surfaces makes a great archtop. It's hard to teach complex 3d. Use the help index in autocad. It will show you what each of the different surface and...
Dynomotions k-flop works through USB. It also uses emc2 for g-code. It is a very powerful controller that takes the real time needs off the pc. It might make a good fit for what you are working on. I...
Why not just use it as it is. If after your done converting the machine the table causes issues you can make a new one with your Cnc mill.

If a blacksmith asked you if it was cheating to use a Bridgeport and Manuel lathe would you stop using them? A Manuel or Cnc machine and hand or power tools are just that (tools). I've seen this same...
The dynomotion Cnc app is emc based. They list common g-codes on there site but as far as I can tell it will run any of the emc2 codes in the emc2 g-code list.
I like the look of your setup of the...
Try discount tools online. They sell tools that are made here.

Have you tried specifying a maximum z depth.

What kind of tools are you using. Hss, carbide? Coated or uncoated? That makes a big difference. Your numbers seem low for carbide but are not far off for hss.

I and I think most others here would have the same issue with this link. I don't sign in at any link just to see a pick. It's bad practice with all the fraud out now days. Please post the pick here...
I don't know about bobcad version 24 but in version 21 you cad do comp. It's not as easy as mastercam where each tool path wizard gives you the option but it's available. It is in the cam side and...
Will it hurt to just match the radius on the inlay? I know on some designs it detracts but on others it's fine.

Kit 8022 includes control box, stepper motors, cables, motor mounts and the computer. Kit 8760 is just the control box and nothing else.

Dynomotions k-flop will work for up to 8 axis. They also provide free software for running things. Good luck.

The data capture sounds like a good idea for seeing what's really happening during operation. I will get some plots together and screenshots. It will be a few days before I get back to the shop....
Also when I tried backlash comp on the y it goes unstable and acts funny the way it moves. I didn't have that problem with the x comp. Any suggestions on that .

That is around the area I was thinking but I keep getting larger values and that worries me at times. For I gain you said probably between .0001 and .001. I found between .01 and .06 worked best and...
Also merry Christmas and if your busy for the holidays I can wait for a reply. You've been such a help and I know we all need a break. Thanks.

I would like to know the max allowable values and practical values for feed forward. What happens when you apply to much or to little? I believe things are becoming much easier to understand but my...
Gearing up your motors will decrease torque. 3-1 means 3 times less torque. That would be bad. If your using steppers I would direct drive the screws.

First I would try to tune the motors at a much smaller move. Maybe 1000 counts instead of 10000. Did you add the low pass filter? If not I would. Take out your I gain until everything else is good....
If it's plastic then yes. If it's metal probably just stamped.

I have been thinking about soft limits. Is there a way to tell the control if the number of encoder counts in the positive direction is more than the total counts available for travel then to stop...
A few other questions. Can the 5-12v supply and ground be used for more than one opto input? Can these be used to operate a relay to start my spindle and another to turn on motor power? do i need...
I am using the k-motion Cnc. Can I just put the enable axis and homing routine at the end of the init c program so it will home automatically at startup? Thanks.

What do you plan to use those motors for? Those are high power motors. 84 volts per1000 rpm is a lot. So is 10 amps assuming that is continuos.

You can do your designs in autocad and then export to other programs to create code. Mach 3 is a machine controller. I believe they have a plugin to convert dxf files to g-code that is used to cut...
Alright this is a little off topic from this thread. I am fairly happy with performance and with a little tweaking I think I'll be fine. Now I would like to add home switches. The switches I have are...
