Ok, I have figured out how to write the brain and set up the MODBUS communication with the GS3 VFD. I was over thinking it and found it difficult. Then one night, over tired and ready to just sleep...
I slowed it down , I sped it up, I changed number of steps and retuned the motor went through complete set up again. And again it was off on every rotation and it was never linear sometimes it was a...
I have been running my Hoss G0704 cnc conversion with very few problems for the past 4 years.
This week I decided to change my ATC4 from a 6 tool rack to a 10 tool rack. So I made all the pieces,...

Great Thread
It is fixed now, I took it apart again, I worked the table back and forth and found binding in the last 8 inches of travel. It was not found during reassembly of the mill. That is because the gibbs...

Ok, I did Hoss's cnc conversion 2 years ago. I have had no problem with it except wearing out gibbs. So I opted to do the linear rail conversion using my old column but to keep using my machine I...

I had dropped a few emails to hoss over the past few months and had not heard back. He is pretty good about replying. His last post here was back in July...I hope he is ok. Anyone heard from him...
OK, I got it figured out, Arturo had a few suggestions but I am not sure they work with Mach3 or 4 at all, they just keep a record of what works for different users who figure out the problems. The...
When I check the diagnostic screen, the index occasionally blinks, and at random

I have a c3 board I put on the g0704 with a different controller a d4gs, I need it for mach3 to control the spindle speed. The led on the board is flashing in time with the slot on the timing wheel,...
Thanks, but already tried all forms of silicone caulk from home depot, inside outside bathroom, they all turn to jelly in about a month
Has anyone had problems with corrosion in the limit switch wires? I have tried several different coolants but after a few months of running I start getting false triggers from the limit switches. The...
My pc is an older one, I am running Vista. If I lay the Z axis flat, I can rapid about 200 IPM, but standing up I am at 120 IPM. Any faster than 150 IPM I have hardly any torque, when raising the...
I am converting my Z axis to linear guide rails. I am leaving the X and Y axis as dovetail.
However my question is about the stepper motor and driver.
From the begining I have been using a...
OK, so here is the latest version of my conversion to linear rails for my G0704, along with the enclosure and support frame. I did have to make the head extension just a bit longer, 3.5 inches, but...
Yes, but I plan on mounting the rails on their side is the carriage riding on a V rail, and using med pre-load the tolerances are very close. I do not think the finish will suffer, but I will find...
I am shortening the head extension back to 2.5 in. I still plan on putting the stiffeners in the column. I loose a couple of inches in Y because of the width of the plate needed to give the table...
I am hoping someone on there can help with the spindle design for a surface grinder.
I want to use standard grinding wheels, 1"wide.

I want to build a surface grinder. I have not decided for sure, but I think it will be CNC I have done a couple of mills and one lathe so this is one piece of equipment I do really need.
I am tired...
it seems to cut steel pretty good, what is the spindle rated at?
what are you using to drive the XYZ, servos or steppers? what rating/size?
I could not open the files, I have solidworks 2012 and...
yep, I did run the FEA. I made some changes to the column. I added some .25 2x2x3 steel channel on both left and right sides and on the rear wall internally, still enough room for the ball nut. On...
I thought about it, but it is only a 5 inch extension, twice what Hoss did but stable. With the way I have installed the counter weight and along with the support from the enclosure it should be...
Yep, did the bottom one, it is in the new pictures along with a counter weight to help with head dip. There is also a counter balance weight only 70% of the counter weight.
Oh, and I am removing the old Roton ball screws and nuts, nothing wrong with them, just got a really good deal on the C7 1605 ball screws and nuts.
Ok here is the 90% complete model, saved the files as jpg's so you can see how it is coming.
Tonight I start on the cabinet that will enclose the mill for flood cooling and support the mill giving...
OK guys, here are some screen shots of my G0704 linear rail mods. I have bought I think all of Hoss's DVD's over the years, I can not recommend them enough. Even the older stuff gives you so much...
