Hi Brad, your machine looks to be a lot more intact than mine, would be interesting to see how much of it still works.
Cheers.

So on further inspections during cleaning I found several small stainless balls in the spindle housing, about where they would be if it was traveled past the ballscrew travel and dropped out, may...
The switches are in the middle of travel and there are ramps at each end so I can use one switch for limits/homing and the other for over travel/estop.
Yeah I'm not too worried, I still have 6 so I can use two per axis, and combine limit/homing.
Cheers.
Russell.
Turns out those limit switches cost about $200-$300 bucks each, plus postage!! Three of those will hurt the budget (of about $20 bucks!)
I might have to modify the Z switches for something a bit...
So been a while...anyway today I thought I'd start on something simple, and look at the limit switches, there seems to be three per axis, so I am assuming one homing and one for each end of travel....
Hi all, yes I am digging up a VERY old thread, I happened to stumble back onto this looking for something else, but re-read through everything and am happy to say we had some big hitters comment here...
Awesome thanks for that, lucky we didn't put a 45/45 in there !
I am hoping to put some time into a spindle drive prototype tomorrow, should be interesting.
Managed to score a good size enclosure for the electronics, its not new but in OK condition, also it was the right (free) price.
Size is 1200mm high, 800mm wide and about 300mm deep, should be...
Yup I will be interlocking the relays as well. Going to run that side a bit manually for starters, also the spindle controller, many options.
I know all about builds coming to a stop, been living...
Thanks Matt, I'm assuming it would be DC not AC for the clutch packs?
Pullstud info would be awesome, can't wait to test that out.
Cheers
Russell.
Sooooo, If Phil or Raymond happen to read this, I wouldn't mind a little help. Tonight I looked into the spindle encoder and also the clutch pack. As my machine was gutted, I only have the mil-spec...
This isn't really an update but tonight I was in the shed and decided to wipe the neglect off the T Slot Bed, and give it a nice coat of lanolin to keep it looking nice.
Need to work out what the...
Yes some time has passed since any activity, I try not to look at the dates on previous posts, makes me think I am bad at finishing projects for some reason!
Any Hoo I have designed a servo drive...
So I had a quick look at the manual, they advise not to connect the PC ground to the machine, is it possible to remove that connection ? I've never used the hardware you have so I don't know if...
Well my 2c regarding Big Red, keep pestering your geek friend who is trying to setup LiinuxCNC, if your setup is using step/dir then the setup is a lot easier than servo feedback to the controller...
I don't want to get anybody's hopes up but I am thinking of how to attack the re-build. At this stage I am thinking of making each component modular, so starting with the servo drives I will make...
At this stage the plan is to use closed loop to the controller, for all 5 axis (future trunnion table) plus spindle, this way I just build power stages, all tuning is done in controller software. My...
Hi Matt, well funny you ask, I had mentioned that I was going to give the machine back to my mate, well turns out he went cold on the gear hobbing idea and we discussed dismantling the machine for...
Hey Widgit, I don't post here as much as I should, but I really enjoy seeing your creations, especially the not so politically correct ones, there should be more of that in this world. It is the eve...
Hi Matt, pm sent.
If anybody else is interested I am giving the machine back to my mate as I have run out of time and money for this project, sounds bad but he is going to retrofit it to use as a...
Well I guess you could change things around, personally I think the Planet-CNC controller and drives will outperform the original Chinese electronics, but you are certainly free to mix things up.
...
Perfect, so set the jumper onto the 2 amp setting for starters. You should see far better performance straight away.
It sounds as if the drives are in full step mode, which isn't very smooth, so...
Ok so at first I couldn't see motor drives on the planet-cnc site but with some creative googling I found the motor drive you are using, I was assuming you had got them somewhere else.
If you...
When you say it works with the original controller and Mach3 do you mean there was a different set of stepper drives as well?
Ok now we are talking, the current select is what we need, do you have any information on this?
What you need to do is find the current of the steppers you have and set that on the driver. It may...
What are the stepper motor drives ?
It sounds to me like they don't have the correct motor current set, so when you jog they try to start but then stall, and it seems when the buttons on the box...
Does it need to be 5 axis ? I've been doing some patterns for lost foam casting with Extruded Polystyrene (is that the EPS you mean?) Only 3 axis stuff but it machines surprisingly well.
Russell.
That is a whole lot of ouch!
All the best for your recovery, hope to see you making sawdust again soon.

Hi Khalid, I am seriously thinking of adding an embroidery machine to my project list, but first a couple of quick questions...
Has anybody got a machine up and running yet ? I am very lazy and if...
