6W Laser Diode, not 60W. Nope, we are not on Facebook.
Yes, it was a follow up response to John's statements. Here is a mirror engraving I posted on another forum yesterday, Look at the last post.

Also keep in mind the laser powers needs to be reversed. White shades need to burn at a higher power level because it will show whiter on the reverse side, where the darker shades will be more the...
V2.2.4 is the latest. This update only addressed some clone serial communication chip issues, but evidently not all.
Are you running the latest version of PicSender?

There is an issue with the jpg format it's saved to. I can't even open it in MS Paint.
Take a look at our image to gcode program PicEngrave Pro 5. It's considerably less the PhotoVcarve and has more features.

The Atmel Mega 328P chip is where grbl is flashed and does all the work to control the stepper drivers & Laser from gcode commands. The serial communication is done by a separate chip on the board...
This is odd and not sure why there is a connection problem. Try this. Unplug the USB cable from your PC to the board, then reconnect it and let your PC find it again, then open PicSender and try to...
Ok, now this is a different machine then the other one, so the Com port # may be different. Did you change the Com port # in PicSender for it?
I just flashed grbl 8c from here:
https://github.com/grbl/grbl
It connects at 9600 baud rate without any issues with PicSender here. I even jogged our Shapeoko 2 around using it, so it's...
I have a LaserMode grbl 8 hex here that connects at a 115200 baud rate that I know works with PicSender. It has pin 12 for switching on/off with M03/M05 commands. It's also setup with Pin 11 for PWM...
I believe grbl 8 uses a 9600 baud rate, so try changing to it before connecting to the com port.
You need to be careful updating to another grbl as it may be set to a different pinout for the...
The stepover is controlled with the Pixel Resolution setting. By default it's set by .01 inch or .254mm and will engrave the same size as your image. If you decrease the stepover to eliminate the...
That is why I stated it's hard for me to generate gcodes here and then you test there. We do not except PayPal, but our distributor Darky Labs does. They sell a nice laser diode engraver also that...
It's the $7=255 setting. Try changing to $7=155. If it still makes the hissing noise and stepper gets warm, try lowering it even more. Default was $7=25.
Both the $8= and $9 settings increase...
That looks like grbl 8 settings, but could be early 9a also.
$0=80.000 <--------------I assume this one was changed by my previous suggestion, so change it back to the 80 step/mm value. That's...
I just laser engraved that qrcode on Birch Ply using our EmBlaser https://darklylabs.com/ and the only difference was, I added a S100 at the begining of the file to set the laser power level. It has...
The gaps between the burn lines is because of the stepover (Pixel Resolution) I used. I'm guessing at the settings because I do not know how small a focal point you are getting with your laser....
You can't rely on that viewer. It's not accurate.
Download this one. https://www.cncedit.com/Basicviewer/
Below is how it looks in this viewer. Try it.
When you connect to the com port with...
You may need to do some changes to your grbl settings. What grbl does your laser engraver use so I can make some suggestions?
In the Laser Options you need to select the Laser Edge for an outline...
Here it is. I could not upload a file with a nc extension, so I changed it to txt. You will have to change it back. If the feedrate is too fast or too slow, just edit the file.
You can change the file extension it's save to by replacing the txt with nc.
You did not set a Pixel Resolution (step over & step ahead) and that is why it just generated X0 & Y0 axis move...
The PicEngrave Pro 5 Demo does let you generate a gcode for testing using your own image. The image would need to be Dithered first for the laser engraving machine you linked.
You would need to...

This is what the DAC is intended for when using Mach3 with a Laser Diode to engrave photos with varied intensity. The laser in this video is the 2.8W J-Tech Photonics laser kit.

Shane Martin has allot of experience with the older Hurcos. He did a complete newer board retrofit on our 1980 MB2 years ago and it worked flawless. Contact him and he can sure help you with any of...
You have it figured out.
It just excepts step & direction signals and outputs 0-5v analog modulation or PWM from axis depths in a gcode, so it could be used in many ways. We have been consulting Jay on the design and our...
