I would try a desktop before you gave up and retrofitted. My choice would be an XP machine. Make sure it has parallel and serial ports.

In Windows XP you need to open a DOS window (command prompt). Then navigate with DOS commands to the PLM directory then run the PLM2000program. The PLM program will open in an expanded window.

Remove the allen screw at the bottom and the black ring (read large washer) will come off. Slide the slitting saw on the arbor, replace the black ring and tighten Allen screw.
