I guess my question should be then - if not stepper.. then what for a simple start it up, spin fast (be able to control speed), and then turn off with a trip switch.. I am using an Arduino Uno to...
Additionally I measured the resistance of each winding on the motor and it reports 1.2 Ohms which is pretty close to motor specs at 1 Ohm +/- 10%
Here's a view of the voltage waveform @ 20kHz going to the motor windings
It doesn't change when I try to force the shaft to move.
Bear in mind I can start this motor up and it takes NO EFFORT...
Yes.. measured this on a Fluke 289 TrueRMS meter.. :) I'll double check my measurement again.,. Just got a new Gecko G210X drive in case my old one was bad.
Ok Just did measurement.. this time I...
I wonder if my gecko 202 drive is faulty then, because measuring current from the power supply V+ side it only ever draws < 1amp even under strain..
cheers,
Paul
Thanks for the response! I had the ammeter on the power supply and even with me moving it with my hand the supply current never got about 0.8 amps.. Shouldn't the amperage increase as the load on it...
G'day all,
I've got an Applied Motion stepper (HT23-401) NEMA 23 , 187 oz/in holding torque motor, 3 V, 3 A/Phase hooked up to a Gecko G202 drive. Power supply is 36V 4.5Amp supply. Motor wired up...
In this case - max length is 3ft.. so fairly short lengths of tubing
not sure how that will work.. the one side of the long piece is finished already and inside the chuck bore - the other side would be a rough end (bandsaw finish) how can one accurately use the turret...
g'day,
so looking for some relatively straight tubing - 1" OD x 0.028" WALL.
supplier says spec is 0.012" per foot.. to me that seems terrible. I'm looking for more like 0.003" per foot
what...
I'm not so sure the back of the spindle does move relative to the face of the chuck. I'll check it tomorrow - but the back of the spindle has a bolt hole pattern for attaching spindle liners (I've...
G'day,
got a Haas SL-30
so up until now in order to get accurate lengths on parts in my 3 jaw chuck I usually machine one end. then unchuck it and measure from the machined end to the length I...
I've got to hand it to you Geof! Of all the combinations that I tried to get this blasted thing to work - why not just simply halve your SFM.. :) Iscar must be thinking everyone is running Mori Seiki...
Ok.. so I'm banging my head against the wall on this one. :drowning:
Material is 12L14 Steel (cuts real nice)
CNC Lathe (Haas SL-30)
Using Iscar Self-Grip SGFH-32-2 Parting off toolholder....
So I've got a buddy who's got a Kubota mini-excavator.. The bucket is loose as heck and we want to machine up a new pin and bushings.
I was going to go with the following for materials and...
Boy - recently had a few jobs come in that were huge (for me anyways! <grin>)
Check out this photo I snapped of this piece of 4140 prehard.
9" diameter - 12" length
225 pounds of pure steel...
You are correct - but I'm still wrapping my head around why the offsets uses diameters since we're basicallly measuring from machine x zero.
the kennametal catalog LT (laydown threads) says...
Ok. So I've got a big piece mounted in the lathe. Can't take it out of the chuck. I need to change tooling and add a big boring bar and ID threading tool.
I can no longer use the presetter and I...
ok.. so I want to make a few bearings.. these are thrust bearings.
See wikipedia for photo of what I'm talking about

all...
So my haas sl-30 is a vdi turret. The boring bar holders only hold up to 3" of a boring bar. I have been using steel bars up till now and just have to saw the bars down to get them so don't hang out...
It's a 10" chuck. I'll just make sure to keep it slow and clamp the upper limits on the rpm via G50.
Cheers
excellent - appreciate the input.. I'll just keep the big pieces at slow rpm and take it easy.. someone had posted a video of a crash in a lathe with a big chunk chucked up and when the tool got to...
so I have a few jobs coming in that are (for me!) large diameter workpieces. I'm looking at machining some D2 and 4140 PreHard round bars at 9" diameters (these are ABS plastic extrusion workpieces)....
So I'm welding together super heavy duty workbench made from steel square tubing and then placing 1/2" steel plate on top to provide a nice level surface (I believe the steel vendor quoted 1/8"...
the one in your link (4 jaw scroll) doesn't show each jaw as being adjustable? perhaps the image is just wrong? I agree it would have been easier to go with that route if it was possible. are you...
Unfortunately Bison doesn't have a 4 jaw combination chuck in front mount. What is nice about this 4 jaw combination chuck is that you get the benefits of a scroll chuck + 4 independently adjustable...
I bought a 4 jaw Bison Combination chuck (it has a scroll) and thus by default it is meant to connect to the spindle adapter plate from behind. However in the situation i'm facing I will have to...
Considering I'm the mail room, ceo, shop foreman, only machinist, and cafeteria server I'm certain there wasn't an unreported run in.. :) unless I did something bad..
joking aside - it's strange...
the strange part is up until about 3 weeks ago - the original t-nuts were working fine. we then had a drawbar issue with it coming lose from the spindle - we retightened the drawbar to he spindle and...
Anybody have have t-nuts on a hydraulic power chuck (kitagawa B210) cause serious runout? I thought the t-nut's were there to hold in the jaws and the serrations are meant to line things up.
I had...
