Replacement is no big deal. You just surface the old one smooth and glue on a new piece. It's no more difficult to glue on a replacement than gluing on the original.
I don't cut mine with water. Same concern as yours - I wouldn't want to risk swelling.
I only apply the glue to one side, but I use a good heavy coat. If you've never used a foam roller, you'd...
Especially with large pieces, alignment can be an issue with contact cement. Also, if you cut into it, you may gum up your bit.
Personally, I use good old Titebond wood glue. Spread it with a...
My sincere apologies. I didn't believe the GR214Vs could be implicated in symptoms presented. Obviously, I was wrong. Equally obvious, the OP opened the thread in the right forum and would...
Dog tags. Nice idea. Showing promise.
What material are you cutting? The red looks a lot like anodized aluminum. Probably just the angle of the photo, but it looks like your "steps per" for...
Try going into your ESS plugin and look at the homing settings. IMO, you want your homing sequence to be really slow, like 5 ipm. It's settable in the ESS config. Just know that you will need to...
A couple come to mind. Either the "DIY CNC Router Table Machines" or the CNC Router Parts subforum. Posting in the Gecko forum isn't likely to get much attention from other Zone members. The two...
It sounds like an acceleration setting issue. You didn't mention what setting you are using. Try taking it down to 20 or 25 and see what happens. If the acceleration is set to high, it can also...
Folks here on the Zone have reported problems with the Chinese machines. Many, if not most, have to redo the electronics and have to deal with mechanical issues. Personally, I wouldn't go for...
Nice looking mount. I agree that it doesn't necessarily need to be extremely rigid, since it has only two functions: 1. home the gantry and 2. keep gantry from overrun during operations. As long as...
Hello, Craig,
I completely agree. Going on the cheap often (usually?) doesn't end well.
The only complaint I have with PMDX is the numbering/lettering on the board doesn't match up with...
You're right, I thought you were a newbie. My apologies if I seemed to talk down to you.
Which PMDX boards do you use? I use the 126 and 107 and Smoothstepper ESS. PMDX's 400 series boards...
You could go to the Mach support forum. There is also the Warp9 forum (smoothstepper). The folks at Warp9 provide direct support (unlike for Mach4 Hobby) and go above and beyond trying to help. ...
Nothing lately. I had an issue with my E-Stop that surfaced when i did some wiring revisions to get rid of some noise in my control box. The noise problem surfaced when I was using the Mach4...
You're probably right, Bill. But then, it appears that few even know about the 80/20 tolerances. It's not like 80/20 makes them easy to find. Dollars to donuts, most folks don't bother to measure,...
Joe,
IMO, the inexpensive Chinese spindles with HY VFDs are the way to go. Over time, they've proven to be pretty reliable and cost a fraction of the "name brands." I have no complaints with...
Very nice, Bill.
Black Walnut takes about 30 years to reach maturity. The only way for it to "bounce back" if for folks to plant groves and wait 30 years for them to mature and get the...
Hello Al,
You're welcome. Yes, your understanding is correct. There is no chance of making contact with anything.
As far as squaring, If you make your target adjustable you can make minute...

I believe there may be some misunderstandings going on.
1. You cannot take a VFD out of the box and expect it to run with your spindle. The VFD has parameters that must be set...
I'm partial to a bypass sensor arrangement.
Here are some pics of my setup. You're a creative guy, so you should be able to figure something out. You will never crush a sensor with this...
On other point of clarification. While Avid's GUI allows for setting X, Y and Z =0 with their movable touch plate, so does the native Mach4 setup. It is accessed under the "Touch" module. I know,...
Congratulations! Before you start assembling, you may want to take a look at my build thread for some useful information on 80/20. Here's a link:...
If Mach4 has it, I haven't found it. I believe such a feature could be written for Mach4, but I haven't found anyone who has done it. Requires some skill writing in LUA. I sure don't have it, and...
Sorry to hear about your having surgery. Aging is a b**ch. Get well soon.
Bill, I don't believe you need a "routine" to run Avid's touch plate. You can just use Mach4's "Touch" subscreen. Here's a screen shot of the Mach4 screen:

Just so we are all on the same page, the $7,500 I mentioned was for a fully ready to go frame and axes, but without motors, electronics, leg kit or software. Basically the way Fineline and Avid sell...
I'm a hobbyist and would be interested in a 48" X 48". So, you have your first bite. Camaster Stinger appears popular, but at $13K base price, I believe it is priced higher than most hobbyist can...
These are Chinese machines being sold by a Chinese company in China - one of many. Even going to China to try to do your due diligence is no guarantee of success. I've read about sophisticated...
I've bought a lot of stuff from 80/20 over the years. I've never had to wait anywhere near 4 weeks from order to receipt - even with stuff that isn't in stock lengths. I get my orders on my...
