Haven't looked at em for years, bought back some good memories of the build :)
They're actually posted here in the User Gallery under "I" :)
(have been for a couple of years now I uploaded the full set)
>>FF to 2011, moved to the country loaded up all of my workshop and belongings (12 x 240 Km round trips) installed the Mill in the new shed and it's running like a dream, this machine has been worked...
Chich: Well done I used a HM50 to make all the parts for my retrofit :)
(considered a 52 at the time but limited room to swing here)
Frans: You have mail. ;)
Uploaded all of the build pics here.
Al: Yep sorry about that......
I ended up putting the old x axis powerfeed on the Knee so I don't have to crank it for height changes.
Tas: I make small production runs of parts as a hobby it...

3 years on and the machine is still going strong only downtime was from the single phase 240v motor bursting into flames on a semi regular basis....
...
Tom: The Servos are Kollmorgon Silverline 700w but are discontinued, I think any of the larger Servo's from 700w up will do the job fine if geared 2:1!(My motors will spin to 3000+ Rpm so even...
You're gearing Down for torque and to keep the motors in the meaty part of the power range!
If you get slow motors and gear up they may not have enough torque/power to move the HUGE weight of the...
Just had a thought if you use the HiWin kit the ballscrews are 5 mm pitch so you'll need at least 3000+ Rpm Servo's if you gear it 2:1.
HiWin do an affordable 0 backlash Ball nut as well.
Are you using coolant?
If you don't have a flood setup try a spray of CRC or WD 40 while it's cutting each minute.
I find I lose cutters from buildup if I don't use coolant with a large DoC.
...
Even if it doesn't "work" I'm sure the next one will! :D!
It's all a learning experience.
It looks great well done! (If it doesn't run you have a beautiful display piece)
CF: I setup an air blower that is run by the controller, I give it a 2 second blast between the roughing and finish cuts to clear the chips!
Newbie's PoV on mid program starts! ;)
Try to work out which direction the cutter is going to move on the restart and then jog manually to a safe position away from the workpiece before doing the...
The Balls usually recirculate within the assembly, if it's spitting them out the pickup/return tubes are either damaged or missing!
I'll have to try it running the Tig !
In this case I use the Edge finder on the X/Y corner of the vice then do my setup from there :).
Keep it coming guys lots of interesting things coming from this thread!
TY1295: Ditto on the noise issues! I was surprised during my build how sensitive it all is!
Very interesting Gary!
Never seen this method so I'll give it a go next time I run the Mill! :)
(I currently use an electronic but it's 50 mm high so on some projects it can be hard to use)
.....
CF: Good point ! (Not even close to that speed)
I'll be interested to hear how they run for you!
One of my tooling suppliers gave me one of the high helix 2 flute end mills to try out and I can't say I'm all that impressed so far...
I'll have to take some time and try different feeds and...
Ditto....
I've seen those little Vices that are just a fancy clamp system that might work bolted to the T slot with minimal height!
(I think from memory JFettig made one from plans he found on the web)
LOL I have a head start then ;)!
