I too have a Compulathe and CompuMill The Mill I am retro fitting with new Gecko Drives but the lathe is still intact. I have all of the manuals also.
Which parameters do you mean?

I use PICAXE chips, They are Michrochip processors with a picaxe bootstrap very easy to program easy user interface good support and they are cheap.

Here is a bit of a diagram. Fisrt i wired them in series, then I combined two coils together on each phase so halving the steppers resistance. So they are wired in parallel, as colors go,...

The stepper motors im using have 4 windings, 2 windings per phase (8 wires), the phase windings were wired in series first for high torque, But this was causing the motors to resonate at 500 hertz....

FIXED!!!
I wired my motors in parallel and it fixed the problem.

The encoders are Harowe Servo 11-brc-300-G.
