I have a 4x4 machine using their plug and play NEMA 23 electronics. When I purchased It I only got 3 switches for homing....
Still no call back from Avid CNC. They were on top of it and called back within an hour when I wanted a $2500 quote, but now that I need help all I get is what sounds like a 90's answering machine.
I bought an AVID CNC(CNC Router Parts) plug and play NEMA 23 package for my DIY Ballscrew machine. Everything seems OK, except the Y axis motors are running in opposite directions? The Master is...
To anyone still following this, it gets weirder. I spent a day with the machine down and just checking anything I could think of and many of the suggestions(thanks!). Nothing really seemed to be...
Thanks guys, It was around 50 this morning and it was working fine. I think it's definitely the cold. It's only going to get colder though. Going to have to do something about it.
I built a 5' x 5' ball screw machine about 9 months ago and all has been working well, but the last few day when I first start it up I get sensor trip errors. I have to turn it on and off a few...
I have a 3HP DC in the shop now that is piped to all of my machines and it does a great job, but the CNC is way across the shop and ducting to it would be near impossible. So, I'm looking for...
I have a DIY 5' x 5' CNC with 3HP spindle and I usually cut hardwood at around 180ipm and plywood at around 300ipm and I'm wondering if anyone knows what dust collection CFM this requires?
I...
I made my own machine and, admittedly, it was difficult and there were many issues I had to overcome (with lots of help form this forum), but in the end I learned a LOT and got a great machine out of...
Mystery solved! I removed the ball screw and nut and ran the nut up and down the screw and it didn't flow very well and then it just stuck where I couldn't move it at all. I suspect the balls were...
It's not speed, It happens at very slow speeds and my other axes are fine and I've had them running at 400ipm with no issues. I plan on taking the motor and the ball screw off today and checking for...
Thanks for the advice guys, as far as electrical, I have rewired everything. The X is wired exactly like everything else, and I have tried switch motors from the Y axis and it doesn't solve the...
I know I'm asking tons of questions lately! thanks everyone for being so helpful.
I have had my machine up and running for about a month now and I'm still getting random stalls on the X axis and...
Thanks guys, I have a new collet on order, so I'm not going to run any 1/4" jobs this week until I get it, but I will run this same job again, just to see what happens.
Ah, sorry I threw it away, didn't think to take pictures, but yes it broke right at the collet. In fact I had to push the part that was left out from the top because there was nothing left to grab...
HA, I know that's not it, I had trouble with that when I first got my machine together. Also, this was about 45 minutes into the cut and after the bit broke I picked it up immediately and it wasn't...
.25" bit. How would the collet cause, or contribute to the break. I was just so surprised by this, I would not expect a .25 bit to break in plywood at these speeds at all.
Cutting 1/2" BB Ply with a brand new Whiteseide 2 flute down cut spiral carbide bit at 150ipm 18000rpm and the bit snapped in half? It snapped off right at the collet. I'm confused by this. I...
I was thinking the same thing and the only thing I can think is that I must have inadvertently had it in reverse on the VFD. There is a forward/reverse button and I must had hit it accidentally.
As usual, the problem is me, not the machine. I had my spindle wired wrong and the bit was spinning CCW instead of CW. Once I changed that it's cutting like a champ. Just cut some maple at .25DOC...
Thanks for the help. I'll go over it some more and try to find something. Any chance it could be my microstepping at 1/8?
Yeah, I don't get it. I tried plywood today @ 100ipm 18000RPM brand new and sharp .25 2 flute cutter .25" DOC and it stalled? It's like the motors have no torque? Changed it to .125 DOC and it did...
Thanks so much for the help! I will give these a shot tomorrow.
Yeah, that's what I thought too? It is stalling in the cut. Could the high RPM be melting the acrylic? The finish it's leaving is not great.
Ah, right.
It runs on 1610 ball screws on all axes with a 2.2KW spindle. The steppers are Leadshine DM856. Motors are NEMA 23 425oz, 3.8 inductance.
Cutter is 1/4" upspiral running at...
After many struggles of my own making, I finally have my 1500x1500 machine up and running. I cut some 3/4 plywood yesterday at a pretty good speed, around 150ipm with no issues and a great looking...
Finally solved my problem. The problem was, I'm an idiot! I had my ground that daisy chains all of the drivers coming out of +5v instead of ground. All is well now and running great.
So, all...
I kind of worked my way all the way down to motors connected to drives, with nothing in between. This is how I have come to think it's the motor that is the problem.
I have 2 48V power supplies. The mains feeds the first one and it feeds the 2nd one. Both of the Y motors are powered from the 2nd power supply, not daisy chained.
@fretman - This is a design that is being used by several others and no issues with the gantry, so I don't think it's mechanical
@ger21 - Today I connected both Y motors directly to the steppers,...
