Six and a half years later and the MDF table is still going strong. This even after being moved from the old house to the new one my wife and I built last year. I also upgraded to a USB converter to...
Wow, has it been five and half years since I built my dust collector shoe?! The MDF is still going strong. Good luck with your build and let us know how it works with your new collector.
Although I have not used it, Ger21's 2010 Mach3 ScreenSet looks really good. He created a more modern GUI for Mach3 with an easier to use interface. It looks like it is worth the 20.00 fee. I have...
Wow, people like you make this type of community work. Thanks for sharing your design!
I use chain drive on both my X and Y axis. I have been very happy with the setup so far (almost 3 years?). I borrowed heavily from the BuildyourCNC.com BlackToe design.

I am going to necro a five year old thread in order to say thank you to Aksess. I found this thread after a frustrating attempt to do very tiny (.125") text in painted acrylic and failing miserably. ...
EDIT: Ed you responded at the same time I posted and got there first ;)
Since he has not responded I will pass on what I know about his build which can be found here:

Simple acrylic box these are the pictures when I was building it. The Gecko fits nicely into the provided space and the inputs are all attached via the RCA jacks (stops and probe). Dual 48v 120mm...
I did something similar several years ago, but as Bill South I made mine with a separate top and bottom. The top stays on the machine and the bottom is connected via four rare earth magnets.
My...
I added both a new jog controller (Contour Shuttle Pro V1 on Ebay for 20.00) but also a zero tool setup that I found here:

Greolt you are my new hero!
I actually found this thread when I was looking for a replacement for the gaming device that I use on my MFD DIY router table:

Out of curiosity what modifications did you do?
A work of art, thanks for sharing. I am redoing the table for my MDF table today....you have me thinking that I should have started over with metal, lol. Well done!
Wish I had known that there was...
Changing the system over to a torsion box table. I am reassembling it today so hopefully I can have it running by tomorrow. I will post pictures of the new assembly.
Basically I built a 4'x8'x4"...
No I have not yet. So far everything is working very well with what I do have. Perhaps you are cutting too fast for the bit to clean out, cutting too fast will break bits (experience, lol)? What are...
I used to use straight double flute bits on the CNC but have started to use more spiral upcut (2 flute) bits lately as it helps to move waste material out of the way. I do not have enough experience...
That is absolutely correct, the homeowner quality found at Lowes, Homedepot and Menards is not always the same (sometimes, but not always) as what you will get from a wholesaler. But the type of...
Hi Mark, the DXF file was made using standard not metric so if you imported it they are possible wrong due to that fact, the units remain the same but what the units represent are different ;)

I do it the hard way ;) I measure my components and make DXF files in DesignCad. Eagle looks really good and I have installed the free version but I have not taken the time to mess with it. I make...
To each his own I guess. Everyone has an opinion, as I said, MDF works very well for me. My machine has been in operation for about a year now under pretty regular use. Could I have built it out of...
I have several machines made of MDF, including my 4x8 CNC router. I seal them with garage floor (concrete) paint, I have had no problems with the very humid west Michigan weather. Gerry is correct on...
Someone messaged me and pointed out that I had forgotten to post details about the parts so here is an itemized cost list for my table build. If you want/need the exact ordering information for...
Excellent idea, I sent the link to my wife with your suggestion. Thank you!
Any more out there?
Not usually, I sand and seal most things before applying laquer but for small carving/lettering jobs I do not.
I do not know if you have access to one or not but, I use a 24" dual drum sander.
I cut the lettering/carving about a 1/16 deeper than it needs to be, then paint the lettering/carving as desired....
My wife wants to give custom made gifts to her friends/co-workers this xmas using my CNC (ok, that was the reason I got her to allow me to make it in the first place, lol). Can some of you good...
Contact your local custom cabinet shop, tell them what you need and you may be able to buy it from them or have them get it for you for a surcharge. Plywood wholesalers sell 1/8" plywood for many...
I have had a lot of fun building and "tweaking" my setup. The CNC is a huge time saver but, honestly, I would build another just or the fun of it....as a matter of fact I am contemplating just that.
I scratch built a copy of the blacktoe 4x8 machine and have been very happy with it. As hemsworthlad mentioned; I used off the shelf parts including the G540 and a motor/PSU/Steeper kit from Keling....
I realize this thread is a couple of months old and you have probably found your table by now but I thought I would comment on the wood table issue.
I built a table similar to Patrick's...
