I'm back.Been running the mill in semi-manual mode for a few years now and just recently found an affordable deal on the servo amp for the knee. So I pulled the Galil stuff out of the storage...
Got it. I had overlooked the step of selecting the controller in the plug-in config window. Duh!
Jim
No change from options 1 and 3 above. Maybe something in the configuration.
Jim
Right now, Galil.dll v4.6.0.0
But I see 3 potential problems here.
1) I have both the serial and ENET connections registered in ST. Maybe this creates confusion when Mach3 opens. Or it just grabs...
Thanks guys, and I have made some progress. I now have commanded motion from the Galil DMC-2160 using SmartTerm with an ethernet connection and static IP addresses. The servo motor is balanced(but...
OK, I've got one servo amp and motor (Zaxis) on the bench, and able to run on the amp in test mode. The enable line is connected. The signal in to the amp is connected. The encoder is connected....
They sent the wrong rotors so I had to replace them with 4 pole rotors (2 north, 2 south). After this was done commutation went smoothly using a DS203 4 trace portable digital storage scope. But...
Got the Hall commutators. Turns out that by acknowledging their $250/item minimum I authorized them to ship 5 ea instead of 4 ea but at least they didn't treat the magnet (rotor) as a separate item...
I plan to mount the body fixed to the end cap (inside) and attach the rotor to the spiral coupler end. Then the coupler can be rotated on the motor shaft to align it. With no index pulse on the...
I have a Motor Power Co. servo Type: Penta 5M 30 B14/M63 CN
This is a brushed motor. I am trying to find out what type of feedback device it has built into it. Does anyone have access to a spec...
To finish up this thread, I just ordered the Phoenix Hall commutator and rotor (magnet). The commutator is configured for 4 or 8 pole rotors, the rotor matches it to the 4 pole motors. Rotor is .210"...
Thanks Al, I just ran across that yesterday. Pretty helpful. The single biggest thing I got from it was the following tidbit:
Commutation is the means of replacing brushes to switch the windings...
Hope I'm not replying to this multiple times...
I am thinking of this Hall sensor for the commutation model, using it with the optical encoders I already have.
Jim
Thanks Al, I did look at US Digital but didn't find anything that was very compatible with what I already have. The EC35 looked the closest but still at least $186 each by the time you configure it,...
This is killing me, there's got to be another option.
EPC wants $255 each. That's for P/N: 15S-20-M1-40000A-5-R-HV-M06. With a lead time of nearly 2 weeks with shipping.
Yet as I understand it, all...
Thanks Mike The EPC P/N I came up with is 15S-20-M1-4000-A-5-R-HV-M06 (accepting your recommendation). So that's:
15S series
6mm shaft
3 hole 28mm BC mount (can change this)
4000 P/R (probably...
Well, that's a little less than a glowing endorsement. So I guess I have to keep looking. I'm really supposed to get these ordered this week. Right now I don't know how I'm going to be able to do it....
Yeah... EPC runs about $195 each so I'm looking for a lower priced alternative, although we did get all the way through their part number menu up to output type when the tech guy bailed on me and...
Thanks Al.
OK just to review then I need optical encoders with a commutation track and preferably also with an index output. The desired outputs then would be A, A/, B, B/, Z, Z/, plus U, U/, V,...
Thanks Al, I think maybe that covers everything except the index gating (US Digital) A/B High or A/B low?
The 600 P/R with quadrature gives 2400/.200" of travel. What would be your recommendation?...
Well, they have encoders that are apparently identical to the ones I have now except that they have an index output (A,B and Z). Does that work? I suppose it would tell the Galil controller where the...
OK, so the Hall is aligned with the winding so that it is in phase. Makes sense, the amp will then look for the Hall before sending a pulse to the winding apparently.
The motors appear to be 4...
Thank you. Yes, BLDC motors and no, no Hall effects. Just a simple double channel encoder. The motor is a PacSci R34SENT-TS-NS-NV-02 on which the original tachsyn was removed and replaced with the...
Thanks Al, I think that was what you and others were telling me quite some time ago when I first went looking for the Galil controller, following what still looks like very good advice.
So now the...
Just trying to understand what's going on here.
I have a 600 P/R dual channel optical encoder.
I have an AMC B25A20ACQ amp
I have a Galil DMC 2160 controller.
I have servo motors with the optical...
All the motors are now fitted with these encoders:
600P R Photoelectric Rotary Encoder Incremental 5 24V AB Two Phases Shaft 6mm | eBay
In addition the Parker motors (x,y) have resolvers but I...
Hey, I appreciate all the help!
I ordered that connector, it came in and it was indeed the right one. In the meantime I have completed the mount for the PacSci motor on the quill and have mounted...
Thanks Al, that's what I was hoping for.
OK, I've attached some photos of the connectors:
First the power connector as I described it with the "U" shaped contacts.
Then a shot of both...
That is helpful, I just found and printed out the Galil/Mach3 plug in instructions:

1) My guy with the router thinks Slicer...
I have the DMC-2160 controller.
We are at the point where we need to get and install CAM software to run the controller. Other than Mach3 and a couple more I can't think of at the moment I don't...
