You could measure the resistance of each phase and figure out the rest from there. I just don't know the math At The Moment. Also you could disassemble a bad motor to look at the windings.

Your lead screw mounting is the problem it sounds. You should have a sandwich of bearings on one side so that no matter how hard you pull on the screw it has zero in and out play.
