The alignment with pillow block is correct now, good. And everything rotates freely, which is good.
As to noise at higher RPMs - do you hear it only in Low gear or High gear or both?

Before you'll dump tons of cash into a new lathe, why not posting a hi res picture of your change gears? Take 2 shots - along the lathe and across the lathe.
Just going out on a limb - does each...
Is weight a factor?
Pics would help. I only threaded as fast as 32 tpi on a 7x8 mini, but never had issues.
Changing gears was a breeze and adjustment to those 2 nuts did not pose a problem
Mind you, my lead screw is...
Held a bar in the chuk and ran dial indicator along the bed. There is about .005 variance along 6" travel.
To eliminate chuck runout I rotated to 4 sides and variance was exactly same while the bar...
Hi,
Just upgraded a mini lathe to a 4" 4 jaw chuck and now looking for an indicator to help in centering with potential for more uses.
After reading a lot of reviews and forum conversations I...
Richard,
Are the min/max values you provided for 3B fit?
Thank you!
Richard:
Would that be the OD of the shaft's or the hole's threads?
The shaft's manufacturer is telling me the shafts in their production area miking to 1.175, he's not sure about tolerances...
Hi,
I have a keyed threaded shaft from one supplier that measures 1.167" OD and a plate with a keyed hole from another suppier where key is not fully engaging the shaft key. There is a blame game...
Steele is no longer making the kit and LMS not yet started manufacturing, so I just have a question: would it work if I bought these Step-Cone V-Belt Pulleys from McMaster Carr, bored the large one...
Is this a joke then? KBC 12x36 Precision Toolroom Lathe with Stand 2HP Motor 230V 1PH
I have a lawnmower DC motor kicking around. Are those any good for upgrades?
Exactly my thinking. That is why building a column reinforcement (or brace if you like) out of 1/2-3/4" thick plate and bolting it to a same thickness plate that the machine will sit on sounds like a...
What makes a lathe engine lathe?
What makes a lathe toolroom lathe?
There are different types of lathes out there:
engine lathes
big bore lathes
toolroom lathes
What are the main differences?
For a solid column mini mill such as King KC-20VS what would be the values of column flex - did anyone measure?
I am deliberating buying a KC-20VS but rigidity is bothering me. The column to base of...
Thank you all who replied, please notice that this was posted in Canadian RFQ forum as THIS HAS TO BE MADE IN CANADA geographically due to the issues beyond my control.
What make can you recommend to replace several of the reamers missing from my Sheffield Steel and Drill company 'Dormer' set?
I tried generic 'made in India' reamer and its shank was so soft its...
The part is made out of 1" round stock which I envision as follows:
end milling groups spaced at about 3" of 3x 1/4" wide radial slots spaced at 1/4" on each side of about 3' long stock,
...
Can you suggest a reliable supplier of a chucking reamer in Canada? Or in the US who sells to the end user?
I bought two 0.2240" reamers from KBC tools made by L&I (Lavallee and Ide) in Troy, MI...
OOPS, sorry, false alarm! It cuts like butter with HSS, so all tip top.
Intimidated by new material I just paniced.
Can't test hardness.
Should I be able to use HSS tool, or do I need carbide/TIN?

This is the first time I will be turning 4130 rods on a lathe. Can I turn them as is or is annealing required?
I understand that part, but the tools do not produce holes with ID equal to their OD.
1/2" drill bit produces something along the lines of at least 17/32" hole, thus the question. Similarly 17/32...
Unfortunately I don't speak the language of 1/1000 decimals and have no idea where to obtain tools that would produce the diameters you are providing.
Anyway, worst case scenario if 1/2" bit will...
Yes, I suspect that when using 1/2" bit, chatter will give me exactly what you've calculated above and I below.
I am trying to follow your logic but can't as you are providing no details.
Is attached unconvincing?
Why would we only subtract 1/32"? Should not we subtract 1/32x2?
I thought that depth of thread was very close to pitch, i.e. 1/32, but on each side of the hole, so o/s diameter of the thread 19/32...
I was just told to subtract thread pitch from the diameter: 19/32 - 1/32 - 1/32 = 17/32
Sounds like I need to ask for a 1/2" hole (possibly rimmed out to 17/32 but maybe chatter would take care of...
Was searching high and low but could not find what hole diameter should be for this thread: .595-32tpi AKA 19/32-32tpi.
