  1. Re: Hobbyist looking for mentor with small CNC to cut CDs

My process has been using the tape to hold the CD down. A vacuum pod would be great to eliminate the tape, but I'm worried it will be too expensive to buy new equipment like that.

    The video isn't...
  2. Re: Hobbyist looking for mentor with small CNC to cut CDs

Because with the painters tape method, when the bit cuts through the CD it rubs against the tape, mucking up and dulling the bit. Or it would cut into the scrap wood beneath. If I can get more...
  3. Hobbyist looking for mentor with small CNC to cut CDs

Hi, I'm looking for a mentor. I want to be able to cut CDs like this guy:

  4. Re: Wanting better G-code to speed up cutting time.

Thanks for noticing. I actually have another thread about that (that lost some traction). https://www.cnczone.com/forums/chinese-machines/395726-cnc.html

  5. Re: Wanting better G-code to speed up cutting time.

Re: Easel... nope, it's super basic and meant for the CNC noobs / hobbyists.

Awesome, I think I'm motivated to dust off my programming skills and write a script to do it. One day ;)

Interesting. But I was hoping for something a little more automated, since my cuts are always complex and it would take time to plan it all out manually. Plus, I'd be afraid about what if I made a...

    Re: Knocking sound when plunging

I thought that as well, but then I read this from Bantam tools... for a 1/8" flat end mill they recommend
    Feed rate: 600 mm/min
    Plunge rate: 46 mm/min
    Spindle speed: 12,000 RPM
    Max pass depth:...
  9. Wanting better G-code to speed up cutting time.

I'm trying to speed up my cutting time by improving the G-code generated by my software.

Currently, toolpaths cause the machine to carve one depth, then return to the zero position of that path,...

    Knocking sound when plunging

I'm cutting thin polycarbonate... milling in the X and Y is going great, but I notice an abrupt knock sound each time the bit plunges down into the material.

I tried reducing the plunge rate to...
