Sieg KX3 Benchtop CNC Milling Machine with Pneumatic Quick Change Collet

I purchased this mill several years ago and have never found a use for it. I've connected it and made it move, but it's...

Ah ok, that's super helpful Dave. I may fiddle with the wiring a bit but honestly I'm thinking maybe it's time to just replace the stepper and controllers. I've gotten five good years out of them...

    Well poop.

I just tried again on thinner material with a file that it cut just fine the other day. Results:

Would the steppers losing steps also affect laser power? Because when...
  4. Intermittent problem with Chinese 80W laser

I bought this 80w Chinese laser back in 2008 I think and it's been a real workhorse! Recently however it's been acting funny. Sometimes it cuts as normal, but other times the dimensions are off. ...

Thanks Jason. There aren't lenses, they're mirrors...made out of some kind of metal. I thought there was ammonia in windex but I'll check for sure. Fairly certain there is no coating to worry...

    Protective goop on replacement mirrors

I have a few spare mirrors for my Weike 80 watt laser, and was trying to clean off the gunk they ship with. It's kind of yellow/orange in color, and apparently impervious to any know chemical attack....

Yeah, you should be fine then. Still I would keep a thermometer in your coolant...if you run it hard all day it can get heatsoaked. I found the cooling system, mostly the fan ductwork, to be pretty...

I'm in North Carolina, I get pretty high shop temps in the summer. Definitely keep an eye out once it hits 90's. Also, my power supplies (working plus spare) are both from 2008...they may have...

    Thanks Teyber.

If you like the machine, make me an offer. I don't *need* the money, but to have 5k+ tied up in a doorstop is a little annoying. So I'm flexible on price :)

Well, after all the adventure, this machine is now for sale. It's still completely unused; been sitting in the corner covered by a tarp. I just don't have the time to learn it like I thought I...

Thanks for the encouragement. Funny thing is I contacted Syil directly about 9 months before I bought this one; I wanted to do what you did and import it myself. Never got a reply from them; they...

Huh, well, I received a reply about the power cord:

"this this for the transformer to arrange as 110V but Since the KX3 is 220v, this power box is design 220V usage,. ignore this 2 wire and box...

Uh, I kinda thought that was how the computer will talk to the controller. There's a slot in the case to run it out.

Thanks Mike, definitely going to take baby steps with this guy.

Not sure, but there looks to be a pretty beefy looking reset switch mounted above the capacitor in the middle attachment (pic) I...

Yup, the power wires go into the transformer. Good point on there being no power switch; shouldn't be too hard to wire one inline with the power wires before they hit the xformer.

    Still no clue...

Thanks Beez. The black and red wires go directly into the power transformer.

The blue wire goes into one of the PCB's:

Sweet! Always wanted one of those.

Did notice a couple other things. First, a dangling blue wire which I'm pretty sure is a ground wire intended to mate with the bolt which attaches the...
  20. Controller Arrived

OK, here it is. I have no idea what's going on in here...never built a controller before. I think the big round thing is the flux capacitor. But here's some pics...be curious to see what you guys...

Not sure. If there is a hardware component, shouldn't be too tough to install with the modular PCB on the new controller. Then you of course have the hardware involved in the DRO install.

Well, just got done talking to Joseph again. The long and short of it is that when I bought the machine, they had a controller for it, but apparently not a very good one. The initial delay and all...

I can second that...cheaping out on tooling doesn't save you a dime when you end up wasting material. End mills, drill bits, saw blades...I always buy the best I can find. Especially drill...

Did you order from JLW or Seig directly? Interested to see what you think of the mill. Mine's beautiful, a real piece of art. Can't wait to see it move.

Yeah, still waiting on the controller. Last I talked to the seller, they were testing the new controllers, so I should hopefully have it this week or next.
