Wow 3 years since I started building this machine, seem like only 2.5 =)
Im looking for some help here. I bought a set of glacern rails and bearings awhile back, Im mounting those across the X...
look what I found
Wedding Plaque - Let's Talk ShopBot
exactly how he did it
Nice machine Walky, looks like a solid design without being overly complex. I really like how you have all the wiring connections coming out the back with the connectors. Very Slick!!
Very Kewl!!
Ive been wanting to build a clock like this for a long time, Ive been searching for plans for awhile, all I find are printed versions for sale, would be nice of there was a simple...
I did something similar on a small sign I made recently. I just used a 1/8 ball nose and traced the outline of the letters after they were machined and it left a nice clean edge around all the...
I just noticed in the last pic under your print bed. Is that one of those heated reptile mats?
very nice setup, I'm still a ways off from printing anything, that extruder and hotend look solid! Was it based on something else or your own design?
I was thinking a solid metal extruder would...
Its pink foam, in that picture it has 2 coats of latex primer, it will be glued to wood, painted then mounted
The Microcarve grabbed my attention, I started a larger router a few years back, 24x48 steel and aluminum, been building it when ever I got around to it basically, then I seen the microcarve and...
That's good news, ill just set IJ to incremental in the config and forget about it then. Was worried that parts would cut wrong.
I haven't gotten around to editing screens yet, I would like to...
anyone got some pics of their cnc with a print head attached? Ive been messing with this idea for awhile now.
I just finished a wades extruder for mine...

Why all the sudden is mach3 giving me an abnormal condition, "IJ Mode is incremental" I've had IJ mode set to Absolute in the config. The G Code from my v-carve files are changing this.
I...
wow, those steppers are massive!! 180ipm must be like 3 secs across the table
Im using a cncrp g540 kit as well, im getting about 60ipm on the high end, using 3/8-12 acme from mcmaster. I dont cut anything at that speed, its nice to see it move like that tho
I read this in the voice of Walter Matthau from Dennis the Menace :)
order from Glacern, they have a great prices on sets of 2, supported rails and bearings cheaper than anyone Ive found yet.
make sure you have your motors setup properly under motor tuning
Steps/Unit= 200 *4*10=8000 steps/unit
search the forums for steps per inch for 1/2-10
hope you get it up and running
Excellent, this is good stuff. Make it a sticky
My motors also get hot, smoking hot, burn your skin hot! I have the same cncrp gecko kit.
Ive been reading this thread you may want to check it out too.

What Ive been doing is setting the center of my workpiece in my cam program, my table is marked with the center, I align my part in the center, then jog to the center mark and zero all axis. This has...
very cool! Nothing like the satisfaction of designing and building it yourself.
I like that silicone sheet, could come in handy for a bunch of things. I need to change my brush as its to stiff, I...
OK, here are the dxf versions of the files.
I hope these help.
would be nice to have an open source version of a decent cad/cam package that ran on windows, Im not aware of any if there is...
Its made from 1/2 mdf, 3 pieces total, ill get a dxf posted later when I get back to my computer this evening
OK, sorry for the delay in posting these
I made 3 files because my cut area isn't that large, you can add everything to one file if you need to. I'm no vcarve pro expert yet, matter of fact I dont...
Thanks! Its a great design to start with. I built it to build parts for my large machine, but I'm having so much fun with it I haven't bothered with those parts.
This was easy and fun to make, I...
I read the entire thread, then again piece by piece for maybe a 2nd time. I got an A4 for reading it =)
Here's a small box I made from 3/4 maple the other day to test out the effectiveness of the dust shoe.

I think I might have this figured out, when I goto the offset screen in mach I can click the "save work offset" button on the lower right, this will save my machine position so I can shut everything...
