Well if i cant get over 25% TOTAL efficiency i will go with gas instead... :P
A friend asked me to design a water cooling assembly for his 2 new Celem CPRI300 power capacitators :) The blocks is aluminium because he have suitable material at hand. The coil is soldered to the...
Kuikkap: i like your design! I think it's much better than the one with small thrustbearings! What about splitting the rollers in 2 and adjust the backlash with a precise washer or a belleville...
keling is pretty cheap :)
Check this out:

So roughly i would say:
Low = melting big loads of metal.
Medium = melting smaller loads of metal.
High = Surface hardening.
These are pretty cheap, but a bit slow :P

Should suit my encoders, 3600 ppr (14400 cpr in quadrature) I guess i cant...
Have you tried sodium silicate (water glass) and sand? It hardens when you pass CO2 trough it :)

I have made some calulations for melting steel and aluminium.
First you have to calculate the energy needed to reach melting temperature:
E = c * m * (T1 - T2)
c is specific heat capacity.
m is...
"i thought the maximum possible efficency out of converting heat energy into mechanical energy was 50%"

You could perhaps add something like this + a comparator and a little logic to shut down the output when it draws to much current!?
Sorry if i got mad! :P I know it's a minimalistic driver, i like to build small and cheap! :) I belive i can build one of these for ~$30
If i could program ASM i could easily add current limiter....
You dont have to buld the driver! problem solved?
why would i need to with big motors?
IR2104 has 520ns deadtime, why would they have deadtime if it didnt work?
This is the layout:

I'm going to try the Elm SMC controller! Made this layout:

Removed the encoder Z, the ISP connector and the LEDs to be able to use a small PCB,...
Sounds like a fun project with a discrete driver :D I'm building/programming a servodriver with AVR now just for fun!
Edit: I had an interesting bookmark....
Okay, a bit better than here! We only have 16A on the 3-phase, so max is about 10 kW... 5 kW seems like a resonable start, then you should be able to melt about 5 kg of steel in one hour or so.
I...
Thats not bad! If i would go for a transformer instead it would cost at least that! :) And get perhaps at best get 60% efficiency (i have seen indications of that number). How big heater will you...
Nice... Did you get any prices?
You make it sound like you could get over 100% efficiency by using a tank circuit, all know thats impossible! What efficiency do you expect (not including losses from heat radiation of the workpiece)?
I will rebuild Z for belt drive soon, this is what i have in mind:
You have to draw the toolpath manually with lines :P And you cant generate 4 axis toolpaths
And you tries to select an ordinary line? No error message?
This download works:

Its Swedish.. :) The sensors just tell the controller what phases to drive. You still need a encoder!
Hello! :) I intend to go for BLDC! Check this out! Seems to be pretty easy to get it working, just add 3 hallsensors!
A friend recently bought these 850 oz/in servos...
I have decided to make a housing with ballbearings and try different stators and rotors in... Inspired by a nice servo i found on internet somwhere.. 85*85 mm, ~100 mm long and 15*25 mm Axle.
I...
If you have a 3D cad program you can download a model of the frame from http://www.cncgunsmithing.com/
