No probs.
If your mechanically or electrically inclined you'll find you will pick it up fairly easy.
Cad/cam isn't to bad either.

40mm dia ballscrews are huge.
Good if you have an industrial vmc.
I think about 32mm is as big as you want to go.
Forgot to mention i brought them from 'my tool store' in Aus.
Good price and received in about week.
Cheers
I had an ethernet smooth stepper and demo version of mach 3. I went to purchase the license for mach and wasn't happy with how expensive it still is considering its sort of obsolete.
You will find...
Thanks for replies.
I'm leaning towards a safeway or vertex.
Although i did get a response from an a company who sells Eron vices, mae in Japan.
They have a kurt style which is in my budget, just....
So i'm after a new vice for my mill and would like a decent quality one.
Here in Aus choices are limited.
I have a budget of up to $1500 and it looks like im stuck with either a vertex or safeway...
Thank Nic.
You bring up a good idea with the linear stages / slides for redding
My z axis is a linear stage i got on ebay.
It has 190mm travel, full machined from a 50mm billet of ally, 15mm nsk...
Nice Fadal.
Funny how addictive cnc can get.
I only just finished building my diy cnc and had it running a couple months before I knew from then i wanted a real machine.
Luckily i found a vmc 10...
Here's a pic of my cnc.
I got the bellows made in china and they are pretty good so far.
If you send them the dimensions you want they will let you know how much space the bellows take up when...
I agree with everyone that if you have a definite work area size you need then design is critical.
When i built my cnc i had in mind a 500 x 500mm cut area. I was on a budget as most people and was...
I have read that fadal bt 40 pull studs are the same as mazak?
Could someone confirm this.
I can get mazak pull studs here in Australia but not fadal and to get them shipped from US costs more in...
If you want high rpm for cutting small aluminum pieces wouldn't you be better off with a decent router spindle motor.
With the price of a bt30 spindle, servo motor and driver you could get a good...
Hi.
On my machine i have found that one of those cheap chinese misting units are great. I use metholated spirits with the air blast and its fantasic for cutting aluminium. Also make sure your...
Forgot to add, vmc will be up and running soon and when it is I'll be doing a fair bit of learning the fadal controls. So will be looking for things to practice on.
If you decide to build and in not...
Hi Pat.
I know exactly what your going through.
After finishing my diy cnc router i wanted more.
I built my diy for cutting ally and it does so not bad.But it only has a 1hp motor and i have...
Hi.
Have a vmc10 with 10hp spindle.
Need a rotary phase converter to run it.
I'm in Australia so have 240v single phase and only 40amps in my shed.
I've read plenty of people saying you can run...
Had same thing happen.
Wondered why my x axis wouldn't home and it was because my x crashed into the sensor and kept on going. Bent the bracket right back and broke the sensor. Didnt realize because...
Definitely look on ebay for a linear actuator or linear slide.
I got mine from ebay and for aluminum its solid as.
15mm nsk rails, 12mm nsk ground ball screw. The ally plate is machined 50mm block....
I think nema 24 is a new standard?
I have leadshine nema 24 ( 60mm ) stepper motors on my machine.
Of course finding motor mounts this size is not easy.
I had to make mine up.
Hi UCB.
I like your design, very similar to mine.
One thing i suggest you check when you start cutting is flex in your x gantry.
It looks pretty thick but may still flex a bit.
My x gantry is...
Bit of an update.

Hi Mike.
Welcome to the world of cnc.
Im fairly new myself ( to cnc )and there is a lot to learn. It can be daunting but when you get the hang of it and watching your machine cutting parts its all...
I have purchased aluminum from Calm Aluminum. They are NSW based and can supply cut to size. I got my cast tooling plate from them.
After finishing my router build i had some left over parts from the spindle molder machine i used for my router table.
2 cast iron dovetail slides and some steel plates. Rather than scrap them i...
Im using uccnc with a uc400 eth motion board.
here is a video of me practicing some 3d machining.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHsC8J-Z5io
It's finished ( for now ).
Received my x axis bellows, so i pulled machine down for a small re-do.
Moved x axis limit and home switches to inside rails for protection. Re balled x axis carriages (...
Hi.
Have a look at Drewtronics 3d probes. He sells them on ebay.
Can you flip the part, do 20mm each side. I have just started cutting thicker ally and just made a part which was 40mm thick. Using...
Yes, i use 0.038mm feeler gauge and ground dowel pin to locate edges. I should say that the other side was only out by about 0.05mm. But could be better.
I'm a fussy bugger!

Couple of parts i have made for fun.
The machine is cutting ally great.
Dogbone is 130 x 24 x 40mm. It didn't line up properly when i flipped it because i have no edge finder...
