My homing/limit switches are connected to the G540 via my motor power supply, which is 48VDC.

I've wired my switches per the sample wiring diagram in the G540 manual. i.e From the -VDC...

48V relays are definitely the way to go. I got mine from Homann Designs & followed the wiring diagram that Peter has produced:

It should work very nicely, although you need to be careful with the coolant selection to make sure that you don't have any corrosion issues.
