Thanks, mate. I appreciate the help.
This is how I wired them up and, so far, they seem to be working well.

Hi,
I am upgrading my old 3 axis Mach3/C10 based controller to an ESS with a C25 BOB and Mach4. All the outputs, including the motors and spindle relay run perfectly. But I am having trouble with...
Great advice. Thanks guys!
Dave.
Sorry, I should have said... I am drilling wood.
Really? You are using a 1/8" end mill and plunging it at 8,000 rpm? OK, I will give it a try.
Thanks mate!
I am using a Hitachi M12VC spindle on my CNC router. It works very well for most of what I need. However, the parts I am making require several 1/4" and 1/8" dia holes. I guess the 1/4" holes I could...
My MPG arrived from China a couple of weeks ago. I finally got around to setting it up over the weekend and I am pleased to report that it works beautifully! I am very impressed and already wondering...
Do you have an oscilloscope? It will allow you to see the pulses. I don't think a multimeter will work for this.
Have you checked the cable you are using from the parallel part to the BOB? Check that it is wired straight through (1 to 1, 2 to 2 etc) for all 25 pins.
Cool. Thanks for the advice guys.
Dave.
I am thinking about buying one of these MPGs. Would you recommend it or should I steer clear?
Thanks,
Dave.
Here are a few pics of my recently completed controller.
The case is an old computer case that I picked up at an electronics junk shop. I took an angle grinder to it and removed the front and rear...
Hi,
My NEMA 23, 270oz-in motors are rated at 3.0A per phase. Does this mean the peak current should be set to 3 amps, or the RMS current should be set to 3 amps?
Thanks for your help!
Dave.
Is the shielding on all the stepper cables properly earthed? All earthing should tie back to one common ground point. Also, make sure the low voltage signal lines from the BOB to the drivers are well...
What feed rate are you setting in your g-code?
Has anyone used the motor auto-identification and parameter auto-configuration functionality in the ProTuner software to tune the KL-8056D drivers?
I think I understand how to initiate the...
I am looking at replacing the stepper motor drivers on my 3 axis router with new digital drivers.
I am currently running my 270 oz, NEMA 23 motors at 48V, 3A.
I am considering the Gecko G251X...
You need to carefully read and understand the Mach3 installation manual (http://www.machsupport.com/docs/Mach3Mill_Install_Config.pdf). The setup of Mach3 is not intuitive, you need to follow the...
Did you run the driver test on Mach3? Have you set up the ports and pins in Mach3 set up per the instructions for the controller? Is your e-stop circuit working correctly and set up properly in Mach3?
Can you manually jog the axes using the arrow keys?
it is not necessarily play so to speak. It is a lack of concentricity, that is, the distance between the axis of the cutting tool, and the axis of rotation of your spindle. You can check it with a...
You may want to check the runout on you router collets.
I would ignore the soft limits until you have everything else set up. Set them to very large numbers, both +ve and -ve for each axis (like 20,000) so that they don't interfere with your testing.

I simplified the sheet a little and saved it as a PDF. And I am relieved to see that my numbers coincide with ihavenofish!
The velocity and acceleration is just what I have my machine set to. I...
Hi Slick,
I have attached a small spreadsheet I created to help me set up and record the stepper tuning on my Viper XZ in Mach3. I have my default units set to MM. You enter the parameters you...
My apologies BAMCNC and thanks again Gerry. I set the debounce to 20,000 and it fixed the problem, so I guess you were both correct in suggesting it was noise. I'll be buggered!
I dropped the...
Ok, thanks Gerry.
I just smoked my z-axis motor, and by the smell of it, at least part of my controller, so it is going to be a while until I can test this.
Dave.
I don't think so. I am using physical switches, not proxies, everything is shielded and earthed, and the lights on the diagnostic page are rock stable both on and off.
Hi,
I have built a 3 axis stepper motor router running Mach3 R3.043.022 and 2010 Screenset and so far, everything works great.
I have just finished setting up a NC physical home switch close to...
Yeah, I agree about the z-axis bearings. I was trying to get as much travel as possible. I have not had any issue with rigidity yet, but I also don't actually need as much travel as I have, so I will...
